Sometimes it is necessary to connect the past and present to produce a better future for humanity. Clive W Morris showcases this beautifully in his novel Legacy of the Fae. He takes readers on an incredible journey spanning the Dark Ages, the 17th century, and the present. Ultimately, he leaves readers with insightful revelations to ponder upon finishing this epic tale.

Alex Sheldon is just an ordinary family man who owns a successful art studio and struggles to accept the reality regarding his son’s Leukemia. On their way back from the hospital, a car accident plunges him into an unexpected quest he most certainly is not ready to undertake. However, the survival of an entire species, previously only thought of as legend, hangs in the balance. A valuable object lost during the Dark Ages needs to be returned to the legendary Fae. Alex delves into mountains of research to locate the Golden Dragon and return it to its rightful place. Danger lurks around every corner, as certain members of the Fae are opposed to working with humans. Alex suspects that there’s more to the story than the Fae was willing to divulge. What aren't they telling him? Prospective readers can look forward to an incredible journey through past and present adventures rich with historical detail.

This novel is a gem for history buffs. It was thrilling to follow Ansell’s adventures during the Dark Ages, complete with Saxon invasions and daring escapes through the forest. Meanwhile, in the 17th century, the clever and talented Anne tried to uncover the hidden messages contained in her father’s letters. I always enjoy a thrilling treasure hunting adventure. However, this novel reminded me of the intensive research required to find the correct locations and connections by sifting through historical documents. Alex was a relatable protagonist, and I had a blast tagging along as he tried to locate the Golden Dragon.

Despite the different periods, characters, and species, I never felt lost as the plot unfolded. Morris created beautifully detailed settings for his characters. Whether it was a Saxon army camp or the halls of the Fae, I enjoyed spending time in each of the worlds he brought to life. The Fae, their history, and their abilities added an interesting fantasy element to the novel, although this does not come across as heavy-handed. It injected the right amount of intrigue without feeling like a typical hard-core fantasy adventure. Therefore, readers who don’t usually opt for fantasy novels can still enjoy this story as it combines fantasy, history, and a little bit of action.

I only encountered a few negative aspects worth mentioning. Spanning 624 pages, this is definitely not a quick read. Considering the scale of the story, readers need to digest quite a bit of information to understand the plot. I don’t usually mind exposition too much as it is necessary to acquaint readers with the settings, history, and characters. However, it made some of the chapters difficult and slow to get through. My only recommendation would be to allow another round of editing as there were quite a few errors within the text.

Despite the dislikes I mentioned, I still appreciate the story in its entirety, and it is evident that the author spent a great deal of time and effort writing this novel. I am happy to award Legacy of the Fae 3 out of 4 stars. I removed one star due to the problems with the editing and slow pacing. Readers who enjoy detailed stories filled with history and fantasy elements should definitely give this book a read. There is much to unpack within the pages of this epic adventure.

That's wonderful, but I don't like if it is slow paced. It makes the novel seem boring but anyway, the dragons and Fae are attracting me.

Thank you for your honest review. Morris created world of fantasy entwined in reality by introducing the Fae, a species only read about in stories. I really can't wait to see this book as I am certainly one of the aforementioned "history buffs" :D . I cannot wait to get my hands on this one.
Cheers! (ง'‿'︠)ง ♥
