The scene is set and we meet Amanda and her interesting family. At first, this world seems like the one in which we live. However, strange happenings occur and the reader is quickly shown that there is something much more mythical happening beneath the surface. Unbeknownst to Amanda, she is about to be swept into a world she knows nothing about. At the beginning of the story, she shares an interesting bond or lack thereof with her sister. Her sister is very serious and intelligent for her age and seems to not have any emotions. Because of this, there is a rift between the two sisters. On this journey, Amanda will face many dangers, meet new friends and build relationships with those who mean so much to her.

Rise of the Savior by Antoine Bonner seems to be heavily influenced by shonen anime and fantasy adventure stories. Reading this book makes me picture a world like our own which can be changed drastically at any moment by powers incomprehensible to the average human. The length of this book is barely noticeable because of the pacing of this story. The pacing was perfect for its action scenes but often I found myself confused and missing crucial information that required me to reread certain sections. The story is very interesting and I never noticed myself getting bored. There is a large list of characters and there are moments when multiple people are introduced all at once making things only slightly confusing. There are also quite a few unique creatures and I think that I thought two different characters were the same character throughout the story. I didn’t realize until the end of the story that they were two different characters. Other than being confused about the characters, the pacing was good as it kept things interesting.

What I liked most about the book was the variety of powers that the characters possessed. Each character played an important part in the story. Some of their names were similar though which made it a bit confusing to understand who was who. We see Amanda’s character grow and develop throughout the story as she experiences great losses. Through these losses, Amanda must not let anger control her actions. Seeing this struggle makes Amanda a relatable character. With the support and love from her friends and family, Amanda might be capable of accomplishing great things.

The events and unique places are described so well that I can picture them in my mind. Some of these places are of an alternate reality so I am quite impressed by the visuals that the author portrayed. The one thing that was hard to grasp was the lore behind this world. The speed at which the lore is explained to the reader makes me believe that the author expects their readers to have some prior knowledge that I don’t think the majority of readers will have. Other than that, I think that this book is well written and the story is not one that I will forget anytime soon.

The pacing of Rise of the Savior encouraged me to keep reading as I reached every major event in the story. There are only a few minor errors that I found in this book. It appears to have been professionally edited. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

Rise of the Savior is not intended for younger audiences. There are many shocking instances of violence and intense cursing that happen throughout the story. Imagining the violence in this book happening in our world gives me chills and leaves me feeling creeped out. It is not a bad thing, but I think readers should be aware of it. I recommend this book for mature readers who enjoy manga and anime. Anyone who likes action-packed adventures will enjoy this book.
