Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Voulhire is consists of several towns. One of the towns is Hillport. It’s a small town, on the seashore, with most of the family’s members being fishermen. Its lord Orlin was accused of pedophiles by its magistrate, Meldorath. Meldorath was the most powerful mage in Voulhire. One night he storms the castle and kills lord Orlin. He gets arrested for killing Orlin. Even being the most powerful mage of Voulhire, he simply decides to get arrested. He is being sentenced to death on the island of Voulhire, away from the innocent people of Hillport.
The other main character of the book is Galen. He was born in Land of the Prince. There is always war and chaos in those lands. Galen gets the opportunity to travel overseas and inherit his uncle’s property. The property is located in Magnum Caelum (another town of Voulhire). Galen is being very happy to come to Voulhire. He is just a simple man, with no friends, no magic, visiting strangers’ land. The last main character of the book was the new lord of Hillport, Lord Eldus. Eldus is an honest man with a beautiful family. He is a close and trusted friend of the King of the Voulhire. He has to help the poor people of Hillport. He also wants to look into the deaths of Orlin and Meldorath.
Was Meldorath’s accusation correct? Why, being the most powerful mage, did Meldorath simply decide to get arrested? How is the story of Galen going to cross the path of Hillport? Is Galen going to survive in strangers’ lands? Why did Eldus has an interest in previous Lords’ lives? Will Eldus be able to bring happiness to the lives of the people of Hilllport? But the most intriguing questions were being that if Meldorath was a good person and was he still alive? And if so, why would the king of Voulhire allow it?
The thing I liked the most about the book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was the development of the characters in the book. All characters are perfectly developed. The character I liked the most is Beth. I believe she has great potential to be a great mage (even great than Meldorath). She just doesn’t know it yet. From the first chapter, I was absorbed in the intriguing mystery of Lord Meldorath‘s intentions. I was being a little bored by the Eldus playing detective. But with the entry of mysterious rocks in Hillport, I was really excited about future action.
I would give it 4 out of 4. However, I don’t like the use of modern words like university, football, hockey, rock-paper-scissor in the book. That threw me out of my imaginary world of Voulhire, as a reader.
I would recommend it to teens who love reading fantasy and action. There is the use of profanity, so would not recommend it for children. It’s the first book in the series. So, like me who loves book series, should also give it a try. The writing style was very friendly and mid to high vocabulary, was used. I’m looking forwards to reading its remaining parts too.

I like Meldorath. He is powerful and wise, but of course evil too. What are Meldorath's true intention was the only reason I keep reading this book. Also, when Galen path will cross Meldorath, it will a scenario worth reading. The Holy Grail wrote: ↑27 Apr 2022, 08:06 Galen was my favorite of all the characters. Nice review and I'm glad you enjoyed the book.
