The Welcoming by Adam Scopp
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars
The Welcoming takes place in 2015 when aliens known as Reepers land on Earth and take over. The story follows Wyatt and Jade's love story as they join Mia and Jason on the run from The Reepers and join in a quest to discover why they've invaded Earth.
I chose this rating because this book was actually quite enjoyable and a really fast and easy read. I loved the love story that took place in this book, but I feel that it was too similar to the typical love story you'd find in most books like this. They meet and immediately feel a connection and fall in love, their love grows, but there's something preventing them from staying together (I'll let you figure that out for yourself...
). Don't get me wrong, these usually make for a really awesome, epic love story (my favorite kind) and most of my favorite books have this same equation for a love story, but I just feel like this one was kind of repetitive.
Another thing I was pleased about was that the book wasn't too slow. It held my interest throughout the whole book and more or less kept me on the edge of my seat. There were many moments where I'd have to tear myself away from it to get sleep and get work done because I'd keep reading, wondering what was going to happen next.
One thing I really disliked about The Welcoming that prevented me from giving it a full four stars was that it actually moved too fast. Of course I am a fan of books that stay fast paced and don't slow down too much, but I think this book could've greatly benefitted from slowing down every once in a while. I just feel like it jumped ahead too much. The love blossomed too fast, the problem was discovered too soon, the reason for The Reepers presence was known too quickly, and the world was saved too fast. Scopp definitely didn't waste any time getting to the point with this book. i think it would've been much more enjoyable if there had been some filler scenes. Sure it's not always necessary to the plot, but sometimes it makes the book more enjoyable. Just so long as it hasn't strayed too much from the plot.
I would highly recommend this book to pretty much anyone. I've already recommended it to a few friends of mine!! It would be even better for readers who are interested in Sci-fi, fantasy, or supernatural based books.
