Review of Rise of the Savior
The book “Rise of the Saviour: Acolyte of Truth” written by Antoine Bonner centres majorly on Amanda, a normal teenage girl with a normal family; or at least, reasonably normal, if you'd overlook her overly smart, emotionless and monotonous six-year old sister who speaks about and sees weird things, till she has a near-death experience which rocks her world. Amanda soon realises that she has to make the decision to either take responsibility and save the world or pretend she doesn't know of any impending danger and lead a normal life. She struggles with this decision till she realises that the enemy is ruthless and poses great danger, not just to her society and the world at large but particularly to the people she so dearly cares about. The good in her however has no trouble making the final decision as she springs into action to save her world.
Jamie, another main character is also only a father driven by his fervent love for his only son. He strives to do his best to save his son from the ever-hungry hands of death. However, he soon loses sight of the line between good and evil. Amanda also has to learn that battles are not to be fought alone and she realises the great importance and advantage of teamwork as she embarks on the journey to discover herself.
The book was really interesting and I learnt a lot of lessons from it. These include the extent to which love, hate, fear and anger can drive a person. These can be seen in the actions of many of the characters such as, Amanda, Jamie, Jacob, Nancy and Kid. They all made sacrifices and fought for each other and love kept Amanda and Jamie going. It also shows that if you can only believe in yourself then you can achieve great heights, no matter how impossible they might seem. This can be seen when Amanda and her team chose to trust their abilities and each other and continuously confronted Jamie. I also learnt not to lose sight of myself and the difference between good and bad in the process of everyday decision-making like Jamie did while trying to save his son.
The book was really good that I didn't see anything negative about it.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because first, it is very well written and edited. Second, it is very educating because beyond the surface story, you can see and learn great lessons about love, life and sacrifices from the lives of characters such as Amanda, Jamie, Saira, Kid, Richard, Ameena, Jacob, Nancy and Amanda's mom. I really enjoyed reading the book and I wished it didn't have to end.
I'd recommend this book to be read by young adults and teenagers because as can be seen from the lives of the characters; especially Amanda, they are all trying to find themselves and their way through the maze of life.
As seen from the beginning, Amanda has just finished high school and is on her way to college. This is a crossroad many young people find it difficult to face. Where to go...what to study...and so on. The character of Amanda shows that sometimes you might have to embrace opportunities outside of the box of conventionality. Also, you learn that there's nothing too great for you if only you put your heart to it and strive for success.
Jamie, another main character signifies the crossroad between good and bad which is where many of us stand, especially as young adults. We all strive to be the best we can, for ourselves and especially for our loved ones. This book shows that we need to learn when we are crossing the line towards bad even when what we wish to do is good. This can be especially seen from the character of Jamie in his bid to save his son.
I look forward to reading other books by the author Antoine Bonner and I also say a big “kudos” for a story well penned.
