Poss. SPOILERS/ Review "The Immortal Empire" Series

Post by MamaBookAddict »

Kate Locke (who also writes under the pen names Kady Cross, Katie Cross and Kathryn Smith) is the author of the steampunk paranormal urban fantasy trilogy 'God Save the Queen' , 'The Queen is Dead' and "Long Live the Queen'.

I actually read this trilogy in 6 days, having read all 3 books back to back. Ive never read steampunk before and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.

Ok, so Queen Victoria has been ruling the British Empire for 175 years now. Yep. Queen V is a vamp. Apparently a nice chunk of the English (and rest of the world) are full or half blooded vampires, werewolves or goblins. Goblins are supposedly the bottom of the chain, being a blend of human, were and vamp.

Eventually we learn that things arent always as they seem. Xandra Vardan is the 2nd child of Lord Vardan - an aristo (vampire) and a human courtesan. But we soon find out that Xandra's mother was bitten by a were while she was carrying her. Not only does this make her a goblin, but she becomes the goblin Queen also. Oh, and did I mention that she's dating the werewolf alpha Vex?

Its defiantly an adult series as the sex scenes are slightly descriptive. If it wasnt for those, it could be a YA series. But those scenes are a small part of the storylines. There is so much more to the story than I could say here without giving away spoilers.

The language was confusing at first - being that the author is British - but there is a glossary in the back of each book. This helps immensely and after awhile, you dont even need it. If you've never read this genre before, start with this trilogy. I found out that Kate Locke writes under a few different pen names so I will be checking out her other books for sure!! :)
