Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a high fantasy story which follows the adventures of Thoral, a barbarian. Thoral is a hefty guy with golden hair. He has more will to fight than he has intelligence. He lives his life going on different adventures in the land of Grome. Of course, every great warrior needs someone to keep them sane. Thoral's aide is Brad, a talking fish who he once saved from drowning. Thoral and Brad develop a lifelong friendship as they move from one adventure to the next. When word came that the fate of Grome was threatened by an evil person known as The Heartless One, Thoral swore to protect the land and wipe out every last one of these evil creatures.

There were so many strong aspects of this story. I liked how the conversations were written. There was so much humor in the way the characters spoke and interacted with each other. I particularly liked the mannerisms of the elves. They were a peculiar set of people who did things differently from everyone else and had different names for everything. Their armies were made of mostly females. The book was full of descriptions that had my imagination running wild. I could imagine Brad pouting because he had no fingers to wear the magical ring or the horse trying to tell a story, but no one understands what he was saying. The sceneries, character development and engaging plot made the book a worthy read.

I didn't really find anything to dislike about this book. There was even humor in the title of the book. Thoral was referred to as the fist wielder, since he had mighty fists. Some persons thought he was called Fish Wielder, since he was always walking around with a fish. This book seemed to be professionally edited, as I only found a few errors.

I take pleasure in awarding this book with a perfect score of 4 out of 4 stars. I found it quite thrilling to get lost in the world of Grome and all its colorful elements. The storyline was very creative and captivating. We learn of different, smaller adventures that the duo embarked on that were like separate extra stories that built up our suspense for the main story.

I would recommend this book to all who enjoy reading fantasy stories, especially those with aspects that don't seem to make sense logically. I had a great reading experience with this book, and I think adventurous adults and teens would enjoy this book as well.
