Review of Prototype
Incarceration has always been a widespread means of dealing with crimes. So far, no one has given an alternative to incarceration. Other interesting debates are whether incarceration truly reforms people and if any incarceration facility is truly inescapable?
Prototype by Robert D. Gallagher is a sci-fi/fantasy-based novel. It is book one of The Lost and Forgotten Series and tells the story of a top-secret incarceration facility that was built to be inescapable.
Sam McCall is a thief who has broken out of several prisons in his life after being arrested and imprisoned. He becomes imprisoned in Facility Zero, a top-secret prison facility located close to a black hole. Sam is first met by Professor Alistair Brookes, the man who designed the prison. He also meets others who would also like to escape from the hellhole called Facility Zero. The prison's design is remarkable and escaping from there proves very challenging. All is not what it seems at Facility Zero as they have strange encounters. The supernatural also comes into play as they realize that they're not the first to be imprisoned here. The black hole itself is discovered to be a prison for something or someone. Grab a copy of this book to find out if Sam manages to find a way to escape this seemingly inescapable prison.
Sci-fi lovers are in for a treat. The storyline of this book was just exhilarating. What I loved most about the book were the descriptions. The author has a way with words. The descriptions were done in such a way that the reader could vividly imagine the scenes. It also gave the book a real-life setting. The technical and geographical details also made the storyline more compelling and captivating. Don't even get me started on the action because it was top-notch. The character, Abbey, gave me the best action-packed scenes ever. The book was also suspenseful and had the element of surprise. I loved the supernatural twist that took place later on in the story. I never saw it coming, and I got to say that it was superb.
The only thing in the book I found flawed were the errors I encountered. The errors were few considering the book's length and didn't cause any serious distraction. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading it. It had excellent structuring. The pages were numbered, and the storyline was arranged to flow smoothly. The events that occurred were also well-arranged, and the time each event occurred was stated. This helps the reader to connect the period in which events occurred and correlate them to each other. The storyline had originality and the author's writing style was engaging. The book had major and minor characters that were well-developed. The scenes were also well-developed. My favorite character in the book is Abbey. She tended to bring out the action in every scene, and I enjoyed that.
The book lacks professional editing. Another round of editing would be of great help. I'm deeply saddened that I won't be able to give this book a perfect rating because I enjoyed reading it. I found a few errors while reading it. Although it didn't affect my reading comprehension, the number of errors I found is enough to warrant a deduction of one star. I'm therefore rating this book 3 out of 4 stars. I recommend Prototype by Robert D. Gallagher to lovers of sci-fi and fantasy-based novels.
