The Queen of Xana, written by Fred Pilcher, is a fantasy about an aristocrat named Agatha. The protagonist is the daughter of Queen Julia of Xana kingdom. As a child, Agatha is exposed to the hardships suffered by the commoners in Xana. The resources of the kingdom are being exploited by the ruling class. Her mother, Queen Julia, supports the ruling class because of their wealth. Agatha resolves to change the lives of the commoners in the kingdom. However, she is unable to achieve her goal because she does not have the support of her mother and the ruling council.

Queen Julia throws a lavish party to celebrate Agatha's birthday. She invites both indigenous and foreign aristocrats. However, during the party, Queen Julia is killed by an evil sorcerer named Magi. Magi proceeds to seize the kingdom and oppress the people. Agatha is faced with the difficult challenge of defeating Magi and taking back control of Xana. Her fairy godmother tells her what she must do to regain the kingdom. Is she able to defeat Magi and regain the kingdom? Does she change the lives of the commoners in Xana?

This book accurately reflects the passionate message which Fred Pilcher seeks to pass to his audience. Fred demonstrates his message to the reader with easy diction, a calm voice, and impeccable structure. As I read The Queen of Xana, I was inspired by Agatha's character. She is born into greatness, yet she is humble. She is born wealthy, yet she identifies with the poor. She is born beautiful, yet she is sensible. This book immerses you in beautifully described scenes; I felt like I was seeing a movie.

In The Queen of Xana, Fred exposes several ills in modern-day society. Problems, such as corruption, greed, war, and murder are examined and expressed in the narrative. As well, Fred elucidates several solutions to the problems prevalent in society. These solutions are expressed through Agatha's agricultural, educational, political, and military reforms. This book paints a great picture of true love. This is seen in the relationship between Prince Olaf and Agatha. Even though Agatha is not able to bear Olaf children, he still loves her greatly. This book is professionally edited; I found only one error in it.

I love this book, and I did not find any negative features in it; hence, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who are intrigued by fairy tales. This book contains explicit sexual scenes; hence, it is not appropriate for minors.
