Galen Bray is your regular man. He is neither a superhero nor a warrior. As I said, he is your regular kind of man. The only thing that makes his life so different from mine and yours is the two decades of death, hunger, and suffering that come with the war that he has had to live through. Even though he has survived this long, he is not thrilled with the way things are and the thought that he could be conscripted into the army to fight a war that he doesn't care about in the blink of an eye. That is why when Rowan waltzed into his country in search of the heir to Galen Osita's small fortune and he traced Galen Bray to his house, Galen did not hesitate to make good use of the ticket to freedom that Rowan handed him. Voulhire is his future, and he would do all that he could to keep that future safe. But the thought of settling into a boring routine goes right out the window when a magical object piques his curiosity and causes him to go in search of answers.

I will like to start my proper appraisal of this book by saying that this book, which is titled We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, is the first book in the We Are Voulhire series. To the best of my knowledge, this series has nine books in it. This means that this book is just the beginning of Galen's adventure in Voulhire. It was authored by Matthew Tysz, a master writer and a man blessed with the gift of telling the most captivating stories.

I did not dislike anything in the book. I loved everything. But before I get to that, I want to say that there is one thing that I have grown to love about all of Matthew Tysz's books. That thing is the way he describes things. I have noticed that his descriptions of events and people are so well-detailed to the extent that I have started seeing all of those things in my head and I can paint a picture or two of them. He pays so much attention to details like emotions, eye moments, atmosphere, etc., as if he was recounting these details from memory.

Like I said above, I did not dislike anything in this novel. But the one thing that I like most is the lack of a clear-cut protagonist and antagonist. I am used to reading books that will introduce the protagonist or hero of the novel and the villain from the get-go. Honestly, it's now kind of a cliche. I know that this book focuses on Galen, but it also focuses on a plethora of other characters like Meldorath, Rowan, Demetrius, etc. Readers are prone to categorizing one or more characters as heroes and the others as villains. But I noticed that the author did not exalt one over the other. I believe that as the series progresses, each character's role will be defined. I enjoyed the uncertainty I felt in this book concerning the subject matter.

One other thing that I have noticed about Matthew Tysz's books is how well-edited they seem to be. Reading We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies felt like taking a joyride in a world filled with magic and adventure. So it was interesting. But the exceptional editing or total lack of errors made my experience even better. So, that is just another reason to give this book and its author some accolades.

This review summarizes that I did not dislike anything in the novel being reviewed, and since this is the case, I find it fitting to rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I would love to see the end of the story being told, so I am sure that I will be reading the remaining books in the series. So, if you are interested in books that focus mainly on an adventure (as was seen in medieval times) in a world that practices magic as much as it embraces science, I recommend that you read We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies.
