Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is something different. The book starts with Thoral Mighty Fist, the protagonist and hero of this novel, dwelling in self-pity while drowning his woes in a tankard of warm ale at the Gruesomely Gashed Gnome. While he is doing this, Bradfast, a knowledgeable twelve-inch-long orange koi fish, enters the bar and rouses Thoral from his drunken stupor with the promise of adventure.

Thereafter, the pair, along with Warlordhorse and Thoral's magic broadsword Blurmflard, embark upon a series of adventures that have varying levels of intrigue. They battle Necrogrond, the foe with many lives, and race to stop the evil plan of the Bad Religion (the name of the bad guys). Will they be able to stop this convoluted plan of the Bad Religion? Or will it be too late?

The writing style is certainly different from that of any book I have ever read. Thoral's use of archaic language was a bit confusing at times, but it made his character realistic. The characters were brilliantly created. My favorite character is Bradfast, the fish. He is my favorite character because he is smart, practical, loyal, witty, and has a very good sense of humor. He also added a substantial amount of humor to this book.

J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a master of suspense and surprising twists. There were moments I didn’t see coming. For example, I was definitely surprised by the way the book ended. Some lessons can be gotten from this book. Lessons like the importance of caring for others, the need to do what is right, and the effectiveness of teamwork. I also like the cover of this book, and I think the illustrations on it are fitting.

However, I found some parts of the dialogue cringe-worthy. Also, the heavy emphasis placed on explaining and describing events was a bit boring at times, but these were part of the plot and the writing style. So, I wouldn’t classify these as negative aspects. I didn’t see any errors in this book. Therefore, I believe it was brilliantly edited. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and uniqueness of this book. Therefore, I give Fish Wielder a befitting rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

I believe children, teenagers, young adults, and even older adults will enjoy reading this light-hearted book. Readers looking for a book that will make them laugh while distracting them from the stress of reality will enjoy this book. I can't count the number of times I had a good laugh while reading Fish Wielder. Lovers of fantasy novels and magical worlds will also enjoy the creativity put into creating this book. Although there are some violent scenes in this book, the silliness surrounding these scenes will greatly reduce or completely eliminate any discomfort caused by such scenes.
