Review of The Devil Pulls the Strings
The Devil Pulls the Strings by J.W.Zarek is a fantasy novel that revolves around the life of Boone Daniels, a replacement for a role on a musical performance turned hero. A knight who fatally injures his best friend in a joust and now has to keep a promise to fill in for him in his gig on a musical band. Everything he knows of the world seems to change as he goes from getting a gig to play in a band to unraveling world mysteries and even has to go back in time to achieve some.
The book goes on to describe the obstacles faced by the protagonist, Boone Daniels and Sapphire, a talented student studying the violin as they go on nerve-shaking adventures to save New York, and in fact, the whole world.
I enjoyed this book a lot and it is a perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy, action and subtle romance. I loved the manner through which Boone Daniels, the protagonist of the book is portrayed as a man with his own problem, earnestly solving someone else's. An honorable man who stands by his promise. The perfect and vivid fight scenes, so detailed. It is a story of adventure, love, honor, betrayal and culture. The author employs perfect diction as he uses simple English to convey his message. There seems to be a perfect play on time and periods as events lead from the past to the future and back to the past again, these elements come together to form a wholesome story, an epic fantasy.
I wish to note that I found no negative impact this book can have on its readers, except perhaps giving them a wild imaginative ability. It has little or next to no errors, the writing is flawless and perfect.
The Devil Pulls the Strings is a great book and I love every aspect of it. A mixture of science, magic, and music. I appreciate the author's naming of the characters.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is a perfect embodiment of what true valor should be like, what honorable men should be like. It is a fantasy that seems to, in some tricky ways teach a moral of honor. There is a total absence of profanities. I definitely will like to read more books like this one. I see it as a perfect fit for a fantasy lover like me.
I recommend this book to people who love a perfect blend of Doctor Strange and Harry Potter. For people who love fantasy, then this is for you.
