Awakening by Tayma Tameem is a fantasy novel that tells the story of two sisters Katja and Amara, the two princesses of the kingdom of Hale daughters of King Frenar and Queen Esther. Katja the elder saddles herself with the responsibility to protect her little sister Amara (born with the Spirit of Winter inside her) from unleashing evil with the power that keeps seeking expression through her. When Katja awakens in a forest, without any memories whatsoever of herself except a name that lingers in her head which she eventually adopts, she is plunged into a world she fears knows her identity. She learns bits about whom she is and how her sister has become an evil queen that all of Hale is terrified of. As Katja seeks to have her memories completely restored and to remember who she truly is, she is also on a quest to confront the evil queen and save the kingdom of Hale.

I enjoyed reading Awakening by Tayma Tameem, and I acknowledge it is a beautiful story well told and properly organized. I love the way the author portrayed the characters as real people having typical character strengths and weaknesses which made the characters' actions credible. The descriptions of people and places were splendid, employing great use of figures of speech that beautifully depicted them. I love the plot twist in the story as well as the story's pace. I also love the navigation of the story as the author alternates between past and present experiences of the characters which effectively builds the story up excellently to its climax. I got immersed in the moments of family bonding, sisterly love, and affection. The way the author brought me into the scenes with the right choice of words was purely magical, I gladly expanded my vocabulary in the process of reading this book.

I consider Awakening an amazing book and could not find anything negative about it. I eagerly look forward to picking up the next book in this series.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is because the book met my expectations, it answered every question it raised and was well edited.

I recommend this book to people who love stories about siblings and families with an undertone of magic. However, If you are in any way sensitive to even the tiniest description of gory details then you might want to pass on this one.
