REVIEW: Hook's Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Post by ghostpixie »

I generally don’t like adventure books. I generally don’t like fantasy, either. But Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz goes above and beyond, defying my expectations and proving to be an extremely enjoyable read.

Make no mistake about it- Jocelyn is the daughter of the infamous Captain Hook, she will have you know. She dreams of becoming a pirate just like her father, of going on adventures at sea. So when her grandfather, with whom she lives since her mother is dead and her father is, well, Captain Hook, sends Jocelyn off to finishing school, the girl of course rebels.

Upon receiving word that her father has been finished off by the crocodile which gave Hook a reason to be, well, Hook, Jocelyn goes off on a mission to avenge her father’s death- it’s her inheritance to do so, according to the letter Jocelyn receives from the Captain. The rest of the book follows the girl’s adventures through Neverland, trying to fulfill her mission and kill the crocodile that killed her father.

You may think Hook’s Revenge sounds childish and silly. Admittedly, I thought that at first, too. But really, you should give the book a chance. I think it’ll prove you wrong, as it certainly did to me. Well-written, exciting, and filled with lovable characters, Hook’s Revenge was a surprising read, and I’m definitely glad I gave it a chance. I only hope that you’ll give it a chance, too!
