Awakening is a fantasy fiction novel that was thankfully written by Tayma Tameem. Before I read this, I had read some books by this same author, and I liked all of them. I was not surprised when I found this one very interesting.

The story of Awakening is one of magic, family, perseverance, and forgiveness. It starts with little Katja listening to her father tell a story about their kingdom and magic. That night, her beloved sister was born. But happiness and rejoicing quickly turned sour when the king's mage set his eyes on the child. She was a special child born with dangerous powers. They must do all that they can to tame her and her power before she brings death to them all. Twenty-six years later, Katja awakens from a deep sleep far away from her castle with the memory of just her name and nothing else. Why did she lose her memory? What connection did she have with the ice queen who had destroyed the kingdom that everyone knew and loved? Will there be a chance for her to save both herself and her people?

Tayma Tameem told a surprising story in this book. Whenever I expected the plot to swing a certain way, she made it go in a different direction. This is to say that almost every outcome was unpredictable. And because it was, there was a lot of suspense in the story. I dare say that the unpredictability of everything and every character is what I liked the most in the book. It kept me glued to my seat and made me appreciate the wonder of Tayma Tameem's mind.

One very important thing that I liked about the book was the way it ended. I have already said that every outcome was unpredictable, and that included the ending. This book came to a close explosively. The author made it so that I could not resist wanting to read its sequel. Yes, it is not a standalone novel. If you are going to read this, you should be ready to follow the story till the end.

Awakening was squeaky clean of typographical errors and silly mistakes. This means that it was exceptionally well-edited. This added to the pleasant experience that I had while reading the story. There were no errors to force breaks into my flow.

I did not dislike a thing in Awakening and the reason why that is so is that the whole story was written very well. The characters had the chance to develop properly, and the suspense helped me enjoy this book. This is why I have decided to award it the rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to fiction lovers, specifically fantasy and magic fiction lovers.
