Fish Wilder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a unique book. This is an obvious parody. Still, Fish Wielder has a complex plot with many unexpected twists and turns. Such quality is unusual for humorous books.

At first sight, this literary work seems to be a typical mockery of fantasy novels. The barbarian warrior Thoral Mighty Fist travels with his companion Brad. They fight monsters, rescue an elf princess and confront Heartless One. This leader of the evil sect wants to seize the magical chocolate pudding to rule the world. The simple story gradually becomes completely unpredictable beginning to make dizzying turnabouts. The readers are in for a lot of surprises. As a result, this parody is more entertaining than many original fantasy books.

Fish Wilder is perfectly edited. There are no typos or errors in this book. Besides, Fish Wielder is written in a very rich and at the same time humorous language. Thanks to this, even the rather gloomy episodes in this novel look funny. For example, when describing a breathless elf princess, the author remarks on "her milky-white complexion reddening to the color of a strawberry milkshake". Also, he reduces to absurdity numerous cliches found in fantasy books. For instance, a certain “scent of evil” is often mentioned in books of this genre. However, none of them say what the smell is like. J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison fills this gap. He says that it is the smell of cumin mixed with cocoa.

Prior to writing Fish Wielder, the author has worked as a screen writer, animator and film director. He wrote one graphic novel, too. His previous professional experience often makes itself felt in Fish Wielder. This book could easily be made into a comic book or a movie. Luckily J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is such a good writer that he can paint pictures virtually with words. When you read Fish Wielder, many episodes appear before your eyes, as if on a screen.

Like the book itself, its protagonist seems at first very plain, too. Thoral Mighty Fist is an obvious parody of the numerous great warriors from popular fantasy novels. Thoral's compulsive need for cleanliness makes him especially funny. Moreover, Thoral has a secret thanks to which this character turns out to be not just a successful parody.

Unlike Thoral, his faithful friend Brad is something that even fantasy books have never seen before. He is a walking and talking fish. In addition, he can read, cook and even rent hotel rooms. Unfortunately, Brad can't swim. There has certainly never been such a character in any other novel.

Therefore, Fish Wielder is a very funny and excellently written book with an unpredictable plot and memorable characters. As for the shortcomings, they cannot be found in this literary work. Because of it, I give this novel 4 out of 4 stars. Fish Wielder will surely appeal to all lovers of fantasy and fun.
