Are you interested in fantasy and sci-fi books? Do you enjoy books filled with magic and worlds beyond our own? If this is the case, then we are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. The storyline follows Galen, a child living in the Lands of the Princes. This was a cruel land where if one was not a trader then they either starved or died by the sword. However, even the traders weren’t that safe either, they would look over their shoulder constantly in fear of death. The Princes were ruthless and plagued the land with war and death. So when Galen could leave for Voulhire, he took it. His uncle, who was shunned by the family, spent years looking for his cousin before he passed away. By the time he is found the uncle is dead and leaves Galen everything. Galen must figure out how to continue his uncle’s legacy in blacksmithing, but is he up for the challenge? The second storyline follows Lord Eldus and his family. They had just moved into a new place after there was a massive rebel attack killing everyone in the mansion except for a servant. The family with two children, a boy, and a girl, are nervous about their new home, but grow to love it. They realize that the small town they now live in is nothing like Voulaire. These people are friendly without an agent and Lord Eldus finds great peace in that. That is until the rebels decide to return. Can the family discern safely or die like the previous tenants?

I enjoyed the book and thought it was well-written with a great story. I dislike many fantasy books because the plot isn’t thought through all the way. A plot doesn’t have to be perfect, however, when one is creating a world and a storyline try to include the least amount of plot holes. I also dislike when an author will add another subplot for the sake of adding pages. We are Voulhire isn’t like those books. The plot and world make sense and the story moves course. Certain parts are not forced along like many other books I’ve read.

Despite how much I like the book I disfavor some parts. Though the book moved naturally the quick change from one character to the next left me confused. The beginning was a little slow and dry because it told most of the back story, but once it went back to the present the plot moved right along.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of its great magic and storytelling, for its ability to make one think that they are in the world for themselves. I found zero errors in the book and few swear words. There was also no adult content.

I would recommend this book to someone who would enjoy a story full of wizards, kings, queens, and magical objects that could hold great power. This story has no religous content in it.

I only recently finished this remarkable book, and quite agree with your statements. It sure is different than many others in its genre, and the author took his time building everything. Thank you for the great review! ( What's the pretty cat's name? :D )
