Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen has wanted nothing more than to have a peaceful day since the war began. He had had to live with death and suffering for so long. He didn't even have a family member to share his fears. His known relatives were neck-deep in their business and could care less about him. All of this changed when Rowan arrived in his town. Rowan is what he would describe as a messenger of good news. His uncle was dead. And he left his life's work and properties to Galen. Galen was excited, not because of the death or the properties, but because he would be free of his island and war forever. His new life would be in Voulhire. He will carry on his uncle's good work, have a family, and settle down. Maybe that's what he will do. But nothing prepared him for the surprises that he would see in Voulhire.
Matthew Tysz showed me what human goodness looks like. In We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, he also showed me what human wickedness looks like. This story isn't a fairytale where the good guy always has his way. In this cruel world, the wicked are powerful, and they will stop at nothing to get their way. It is more of a mirror of our society and world. The only differences between Voulhire and Earth today are magic and monarchy. Remove these two from Voulhire, and you have a modern-day Earth with modern-day problems.
What I liked the most about We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies was how slowly the story progressed. This book is the first of many, and the author knew that. Because he knew that, he saw no need to rush anything or anybody in the story. Each event unfolded as slowly and as beautifully as a flower bud waiting to unleash its beauty on the world. It gave me time to understand the characters and process the events.
I did not like anything about We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies. When I found myself hating a character, the author revealed new things that made me wonder if my hatred was justified. These revelations cleaned such hatred from my mind. So, I ended up liking everything in the book.
Matthew Tysz is a good writer, and I do not believe that I will ever doubt that fact. The story that I read in this book was interesting, and it ended on an even more interesting note. I know that I will actively seek out its sequel, but I want to marinate on all that I saw in this first. Matthew Tysz made that happen. He also made sure that the book was edited exceptionally. I liked the story a lot. That is why I gave it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to readers that want magic and adventure. I do not recommend just We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies. I recommend the entire series—We Are Voulhire—because I am confident it will be enjoyable.
