Review of Fish Wielder
The existence of the world of Grome is at stake, with the evil sorcerer Glurpgrond and his partner in crime, Dark Lord Mauron prowling its lands. Can Thoral Mighty Fist and his merry band of companions stop them? Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a satirical take on the fantasy genre that combines fast-paced action with witty humour. The author’s method of expression is light, funny and easy to understand.
Fish Wielder was beautiful in several fields. More specifically, Hardison’s unique caricature-like approach to the fantasy trope is fascinating. Despite the light-hearted tone of the book, the author doesn’t shy away from touching upon sensitive topics. He has successfully managed to narrate the otherwise serious facets of fantasy books such as gory deaths into hilarious events. The author, quite subtly, through the romance of Thoral, Nancy and Nalweegie has highlighted the issue of toxicity and mistrust in relationships. He also wittily lays bare the horrors of war.
What I liked most about this book was the cunning twists and turns that Hardison has masterfully woven into this chronicle. Just when a reader believes that the protagonist, Thoral has been done for finally, the author pulls a welcome surprise, and magically finds a way to revive him. The book draws heavily from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ by J. R. R. Tolkien and C.S Lewis’s ‘Chronicles of Narnia’. Die-hard fans of ‘Lord of the Rings’ can’t help but find parallels between the elven king Elfrod, the Dark Lord Mauron, the Fellowship of Pudding, and the Pudding of Power. Young Thoral, or Teddy and his friend Nancy’s teleportation to Grome via a closet was reminiscent of ‘Chronicles of Narnia’. The characters of Brad, the talking koi fish who can’t swim, Warlordhorse, the last horse lord of Brendylschmylyn, Trenton, the goofy city guard and Blort, the intellectually gifted talking horse along with that of, Nalweegie, the elven princess are bound to leave a lasting impression on the readers’ minds. There was nothing that I disliked about this book.
Readers who like to explore the fantasy genre will find Fish Wielder to be a riveting read. Apart from them, young adults, as well as elderly readers, will also find the book to be enjoyable. All readers regardless of their religious affiliation will appreciate the book, as it contains no controversial religious arguments on any specific faith.
Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison deserves a score of 4 out of 4 stars. I couldn’t find any grammatical or punctuation errors in the book. The book has been exceptionally well written, edited and formatted. Further, I found the pace of narration to be extremely gripping. Due to these reasons, I have given the book a perfect rating. In conclusion, if you ‘mayhap’ start reading this book, I’m sure you shall ‘verily’ end up loving it.
