We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is the first installment of a fantasy novel series written by Matthew Tysz. It is a story about a man named Galen Bray who left his hometown to start a new life in a different country. There he would have to learn a new profession and adopt to a new environment. His new beginning got him to meet people who would join him in his journey and come to places where he made a lot of discoveries along the way. The book also tell the stories of various characters that are shaping the world that he has entered. These personalites range from the most generous to the most dangerous people that he can ever meet.

Voulhire is a nation that has magic, royalty, industry, faith, and rebellion. What would become of Galen once his path intertwines with the rest of this world? This surely gives our protagonist an adventure that awaits him on the horizon.

I liked reading this book a lot. The author takes us to a unique and colorful world created from his rich imagination. He vividly illustrated all of the places that were part of the novel and that had me getting a clear vision of them in my mind as I continued reading. It was a great idea that the Kingdom of Voulhire was comprised of cities that were all unique from one another as their numerous contrasts significantly fascinated me. The many different characters were all so well described further giving life to a story that kept me looking forward to what would happen next. I liked the way that the author decided to have a first person narration for the chapters where the main character was featured and the rest were by third person narration giving me a diverse reading experience. I was in awe of the intense combat sequences narrated in the story. There were characters that displayed unadulterated power and those who proved themselves capable of survival. This book certainly serves as a great way to kick off a fantasy novel series as it definitely charged up the anticipation for the next episode.

As for the negative aspects, not too many. First, the profanities are few and far in between. I was able to find the tenth vulgar word when I have read over half of the book. It seems that the author decided that the expletives were used strictly for dialogues just to describe the personality of some characters. Next, the sexual content was also limited to character conversations for the same reason mentioned. If you are an avid reader of action and adventure novels expecting explicit content as a staple of the piece then you will surely be disappointed. And lastly, I was able to find only three grammar errors after reading it. There are no other flaws aside from those.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is because I found it fascinating. It got my imagination working and was immersed in the story. This first book of a series successfully made me look forward to the next titles in line. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading about fantasy and adventure.
