We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was a fantasy fiction novel. Voulhire was a land of adventurers, knights, and powerful mages. King Wilhelm ruled Voulhire. A sudden death of the previous ruler made it difficult for him to find a lord for Hillport. It was one of the small tasks of being a king. Among these tasks was killing a mage who wanted to control the kingdom of Voulhire.

A young refugee, Galen, received a letter telling him that he had to take over his uncle's blacksmith and find his way through the kingdom of Voulhire. Galen had yet to discover the traumatizing past of Voulhire.

Tysz created a world that progressed and felt alive. There were quirky, funny, serious, and lovable characters. They were unpredictable. Throughout the novel, I kept thinking "what were they going to say and do next?" Throughout the novel, I was kept on my toes and could not stop reading. I found myself so engaged with the affairs of the world and captivated by the lore and history of Voulhire. In addition to feeling unique, the plot kept me guessing about what would happen next. In terms of atmosphere and setting, Tysz was truly a master. Each word and phrase carried meaning. When he explained the lay of the land or the foundation of a castle, it felt like a fresh reading. Tysz knew what he intended to do and executed it well.

The only negative comment I can make about We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is that it was not my favourite. From the characters to the setting and plot, it was out of this world. This was definitely one of the best books I have read so far.

I give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies a 4 out of 4 stars . Overall, the story flowed. The characters were well developed. The characters had chemistry with each other and were truly connected. One could not help but be captivated by the lore of Voulhire. The plot was original and fresh for a fantasy story.

I recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to anyone interested in starting a new book series. Fantasy fans will enjoy the novel. The story takes fantasy in a new direction. When it comes to magic and battles, it does not disappoint. I cannot wait to see how the series develops in the rest of the collection.
