I love to read about about the Fae, or the Sidhe, or whatever term you wish to use.
I can't be the only one.
There's a thread for vampires (several in fact) so I wanted to start one for the wee folk.

Suggestions for series or stand-alone in any genre of any age group.
I want to hear about them all.

Merry Gentry series ~ Laurell K Hamilton (erotic romance)
Spellcrackers series ~ Suzanne McLeod (urban fantasy)
Fablehaven series ~ Brandon Mull (juvenile fantasy)
Toby Daye series ~Seanan Mcguire (urban fantasy)
The Iron Fae series ~ Julie Kagawa (ya fantasy)

The list goes on and I always want more so please add to this list.

But anyway, I love books about the Fey, Fae, Fiddledoos as well!!
I recommend the Feyland series by Anthea Sharp, and pretty much anything else by her.

Extraordinary by Nancy Werlin is a YA fantasy that I enjoyed!

Oh, I love reading about Fairies, too. One series I enjoyed was Wings by Aprilynne Pike. It's YA fantasy.

I loved that series.
I've been reading her new series, as well as her stand-alones.
She's a good writer. Not the greatest but promising.

I also forgot to list Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series.
She came the closest to what I really want.
I love the thought of dark faery tales.
Far truer to the original mythology.

Also...if you like faeries???
Have you checked out the art of Brian Froud?

Lol, welcome to the club...

So I never had any interest in fairies (I just spelled this about five different way before I decided I will just go with this one because it looks the least weird) until a friend of mine wrote a story about thirteen evil fairies in her own rendition of a Sleeping Beauty-like tale.... and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Since then, I have been on a hunt for fairy stories. I found a "set" of several books on Amazon that were pretty good, and then somehow my interest got shifted from fairies to demons. How did I start reading demon books? I don't know! I really want to go back to fairies!

But first I have to finish this sci-fi book I'm reviewing for this book club. Yes, I should get to that!

Winter Queen by Amber Argyle. The protagonist here is a clan mistress and healer who almost died. She was saved/chosen by the winter fey as their new queen. It's an interesting novel since the girl must choose between healer and warrior or healer and winter queen.

Gah! I looked again! And found another one to add to my list! NO!! I must stop torturing myself like this. Okay, seriously, I am going to go read now. I will not look at this forum at all again for the rest of the night (It's 9:41pm here). I might also be lying...

I am very interested in "evil" fairies.
I want American Horror Story to have a season about the fey.

I know what you mean though. Too many books too little time. *sigh*

I forgot to list The Shadow Reader trilogy by Sandy Williams.
This is a unique take on fey.
Urban fantasy with a high fantasy feel.
I really liked the first two (haven't read the last one yet).

I can't remember the name of the series but it's good too.

The thread title caught my curiosity. Are the names all used for fairies, or is this a subset of the general group? What sets off the Fae/Fay/Fey grouping from others?

It is my understanding, based on the book, Fantastic People, by Scott & Rohan, that Elves were the original people. Through time they shrank in size and from association with humans. Thus today's fairies like Tinkerbell, originated from the human sized, gorgeous, pointed-eared people of the middle ages. Their roles have evolved as well. Originally, they were a primal people, more enmeshed with the earth and its energies that gave them unique powers. They fought with mankind against evil, and as immortal until physical killed, until human jealousy and greed made them diminish in size and seek life on a parallel plain.

What is the current popular trend in their form and relationship with people?

I have my own opinions of the differences but mainly, when I started the thread, I wanted to cover alot so if anyone searched, for anything close, this thread would pop up.
They are quite popular, though I wish they were more so, but they don't follow any one mythology/morphology.
I've read the rainbow where it comes to (whatever word/name you wish to use) and I love them all.
Typically, human sized specimens are called "fae, fay, fey, or sidhe, and faeries or fairies are the more diminutive types.
Again though, that only accounts for some, not all.
