Of the Earth by John Cousins is a book set in the end times. It follows the lives of a group of people, some of them Christians, who fight to stay alive following the collapse of the United States government. A New World Order is the new system, and anyone who opposes it or its sovereign leader is bound to die. The story starts with Jim, a war veteran who refuses to conform to the new order and therefore sets out on a journey to locate his veteran friends in the mountains of Tennessee as he is assured that he will be safer among them than alone.

With no governance outside the big cities where the sovereign leader reigns and has established a system, chaos rule the streets. Jim must therefore find ways to survive if he is to reach his destination. He fortunately meets like-minded people along the way; people who have refused to bow down to this New World Order. Most of them are war veterans like him together with their families, or Christians who have refused to denounce their God. Together they forge ways of surviving with the little they have whilst hiding from or fighting the supreme leader's soldiers, who have orders to capture everyone who does not possess the mark of the beast, among other unruly citizens who pose a danger to them.

I really liked that the protagonists could find happiness in spite of all the hardship and dangers they were facing. It was nice to read about people sharing their food, supplies and even homes with strangers, especially given the situation they were in. Their ability to stay positive and not lose faith in God was also something amazing I picked up from the book.

It was beautiful to see what humans can achieve together when they are bound by values and morals in the face of evil and trepidation. I found nothing to dislike about the book. The author's delivery was simple and clear. There was a little light-hearted humor here and there and so all in all the book was a good read.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend the book to every Christian and person who would like to get a perspective of how the end times will be. The book has no gory or explicit scenes so children of age and teenagers can also enjoy it. I would not recommend this book to anyone who cannot stand Christianity or non-believers.
