The cover was the first thing to draw me in. Then I read the synopsis, and I knew that this was a book that was written for me. Tarja Titan by TC Marti is a novel about a girl, Tarja, who has lost her memories and now lives with her abusive stepmother and grandfather. Tarja's life turns upside down when her brother comes in and whisks her away to a school where she can meet others like her. A school where she can learn more about her abilities and come face to face with who she really is. Once she arrives at the school, she becomes puzzled by the fact that everyone seems to know her name. Not only her name, but they also seem to know more about her than anyone.

The beginning of this book definitely reminded me of Cinderella a little bit. Tarja's family really did abuse her. But, and this is one of my favourite aspects of the novel, Tarja is a really strong character. I think the cover of this novel shows this well. She is a resilient person, and I loved seeing her battle through so many things. Who are the ghosts wandering the halls? Why are they seeking a chance to talk to her? Why does it seem like the school itself is made up of secrets? The novel is filled with enough mysteries and intrigue to keep you reading.

Even though we already have a great character, we also get a fantastic cast of secondary characters that make the world rich. But my favourite aspect has to be Tarja Titan. I just thought she was so strong throughout the book, and I love reading about strong female characters.

I don't think I have any negative aspects to bring up about this one. It's an excellent fantasy novel that you can fly through. It is the first one in the series, and I can't wait to continue with the series. The author wrote a fabulous first book in the series that makes it seem like the next ones will be really great.

Overall, this was a great novel. There are no negatives to talk about, so I can't help giving it a very strong four out of four stars. It will appeal to all the fantasy lovers out there. Do you need a strong main character? A mysterious, dark setting? I can't see how you wouldn't like this one a whole lot.

I do really enjoy a novel with a strong female lead (really any character). I have begun to like sci-fi more and more.
