Review of Logistics. A Christmas Story
What would you do if you found out that your DNA has no familiar marker for 99.999% of all known global familial traits? Holly Hillman, the most powerful woman in New York and CEO of Marshall Whiteman Logistics, ends up finding this out after establishing a contract with Ling Chow Group, a company in Hong Kong. To finalize their contract, twelve executives of both companies need to have their DNA taken. Proseq DNA lab contacts Holly to inform her that they detect an anomaly in her DNA. She flies out to the outside city of Nuuk in Greenland. After being tested the second time she decides to stay an additional day. Holly's first adoptive parents raised her with strict rules. They were devoted to only God's word, therefore as a child, Holly didn't have the liberty of being surrounded by fantasy stories. Her parents regarded them as " hogwash fantasies." After their death, her life changed when her second adoptive parents raised her in a commune where there are no limits. Imagine her surprise when she finds out that hogwash fantasies are real. Not many people can say they have ever ridden a sleigh but Holy has. She goes on an unforgettable adventure. Does Holy finally learn who her parents are? Does she collaborate with the Ling Chow Group even after knowing of the harsh way the employees are treated or does she come up with a better solution? Read Logistics. A Christmas Story by Chris Coppel to find out more.
The book starts on a high note. It immediately captivates one's attention from the start. It's not every day you find a child under a Christmas tree while opening gifts. The assumption is that it's a puppy only to find a child calling out to the dad. The story's plot although predictable it's still exciting to see the outcome of it all. The author is also keen on describing the book, it even enables someone to picture the dimensions mentioned. The first chapter of the book at first doesn't make sense but as you read further the author adds a chapter that finally explains what the Brusco family went through.
The characters are described so well. Holly pays attention to routine. She wakes up at 5:45 Am every day."Holly believed, as had Einstein, that wasting brain cells deciding what to eat and what to wear was a pointless time extravagance in one’s life, as well as a complete waste of brain cells." This concept from the book shows her character. The author goes as far as to describe that she does ten minutes of Yoga, take an eight-minute shower, three minutes drying her hair followed by two minutes of her doing her makeup. Will is loyal to Holly. He's caring and protective of her. Otto is so animated it's funny. He is more of a child in a big man's body.
I love that the author infused humor into the book. This made reading the book more interesting. When Holly is contacted by the proseq DNA lab she is informed about the anomaly detected. She goes ahead and asks which one of her team members is related to Bigfoot. She's put in an awkward position while at a party in Greenland when a reindeer nuzzles her hand when she stretches it out to greet Gunnar. After finding a young girl under their Christmas tree, Tony says that he asked Santa for a new radio and what he brings them is another mouth to feed.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. The book is also exceptionally well-edited improving the book's flow. I loved the whole plot of the book and the Christmas concept hence giving the book a 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasies and adventures.
