The Party Line by Dennis D. Gagnon is a semi-autobiographical book, infused with fantasy elements.

Our hero recalls his youth, as a seventeen-year-old boy, who starts wanting to learn from the Aethereal world. With the help of metaphysics, he discovers this world, realizing that it is connected to our world, through our conversations. Our hero must deal with the real-life consequences that discovering this new world would bring, while learning who he is to, dealing with his emotions, what life means to him, and to protect the people he loves.

When I started reading the book, I did not believe that the action would start so early. This first-person narration got my interest from the beginning, starting from the religious themes and the philosophical aspect of the book. But I was not prepared for the wild ride I was heading for. The book enthralled me from the beginning.

The way the writer combined these multiple themes of science, the emotional range of people, religion, and introspection, this book should be convoluted, but is not. The book is well researched, and it shows the investigative abilities of the author to create this world, which combines true facts and science which such skill, is incredible, and it works naturally. While some conversations or details where inconsequential to the main plot, it does not divert my attention from the big picture.

The main character is well developed, the descriptions of scenarios was great, which allowed me to feel some connection to the book, and not just a third-party viewer. The emotions depicted in the book are so raw and real, even when the situations from myth. I was learning and I did not realize it until I started questioning myself. It made me remember that we all have felt pain but is the decisions we make that define the outcome of our life.

I rate this novel a 4 out of 4 stars, as it is a well written piece of fiction, that contains multiple themes that connect seamlessly. The story flows almost flawlessly, and even when it deals with very complex concepts, the way they are explained makes it easy to understand, without being confusing to the readers. It is well researched, and it made me feel somehow inside the story, which is what I look when I am reading. It is a unique book and its word giving it a shot.
