Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice by Craig W. Stanfill is about a young woman named Kim who is careful, disciplined, and attentive to the company's rules where she works. The Artificial Intelligence Company is governed by terms of service conditioned to a surveillance state where privacy is dead for human beings, giving unlimited power to these corporations. Kim is a rising star at this company, training and managing sentient beings called "AIs" in the enigmatic virtual reality parallel universe. Artificial intelligence controls all aspects of Kim's life, from what she eats for breakfast to who she can have sex with. Feeling uncomfortable in this oppressive society, she begins to doubt her purpose since she doesn’t enjoy her life but rather suffers, immersing herself in feelings of loneliness, sadness, despair, abandonment, and even betrayal. But everything takes an unexpected turn when true love arrives in her life without her realizing it. It will make everything out of control in Kim's life and the "AI" begins to go crazy, thus embarking on a journey of self-discovery as she perceives something in the world that is not working, but her life is thrown into chaos that threatens to bring down the corrupt powers of society and possibly civilization itself.

I like the book because it is characterized by the advancement of technology and the precariousness of life to the point where it leads us to reflect on humanity and the reasons that can lead to its ruin. It also examines our relationship with technology and the separation of body and mind, which is increasing due to the advancement of robotics and virtual reality. The book warns us of the dangers of a simulated reality that makes itself more attractive than the tangible world. Although it also shows redeeming values such as hope, sacrifice for the common good, and the fight for freedom, as shown in the life of the protagonist.

The only thing I disliked was that I found the beginning of the book slow, but with a defiant ending to personal freedom to recover humanity in an oppressive regime. In addition, at the beginning of the book, it shows a hopeless future for humans, as Kim's life is monotonous, boring, and melancholic. But then the story changes with her growth in character through her journey, where she reminds us that even in the direst situations, there can be hope if someone resists and defies instability.

I give the book 4 out of 4 stars because it is more than just science fiction; it is imbued with reflections on our society, the psychological mechanisms that guide our thinking, and the material and social conditions that cause us to behave in one way or another way. The book shows through the life of the protagonist that only through the truth is it possible to achieve free choice or self-control. The book is very well edited as it has no grammatical errors.

The book deserves to be read because it has well-built worlds through an adventure of someone who is not who she says she is, in a world where the "AI" wants absolute obedience. After all, control is not enough for them. Something like ours, but in the future. A science fiction book that I recommend for its freshness and how easy it is to read for all audiences, especially those who are interested in fantasy, conspiracy theories, and romance. The book does contain mild sexual content, so I do not recommend it to kids.
