Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a sci-fi fantasy novel focusing on events that take place on the fictional island of Voulhire and events are portrayed from the perspective of a number of different inhabitants of Voulhire, the majority of them being a part of the higher caste within Voulhire, but parts of the story are also told from the viewpoint of Galen Bray, a new arrival to Voulhire, and whilst those within the higher caste are all too aware of the history, traditions and events that take place on Voulhire, Galen Bray is not, and the reader is taken on a journey which makes them feel as if they are Galen Bray because, throughout the story the reader is regularly introduced to new stories and revelations about the history of Voulhire, its traditions and the secrets of its past, and the mystical powers that lay within it, just as Galen was.
I enjoyed the parts of the story that came from the viewpoint of Galen, because he was a kind person and so I found it very enjoyable to see Voulhire through his eyes and to see how he reacted to finding out new information about Voulhire. I also found his relationship with Rowan to be very heartwarming and their interactions while they were together gave me a lot of enjoyment. I also found it very interesting to find out the different kinds of magic that some inhabitants of Voulhire were able to use, such as biomagic, and I think that the fact some inhabitants of Voulhire were able to use magic was a very clever addition to the story by Matthew Tysz, as it gave the story an element of enchantment and mystery, which I really enjoyed. This book was also very well written in terms of its spelling and grammar, and I did not see any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors within the book.
In terms of the negative points about the book, I cannot think of anything that I find to be negative about the story in the book and the way it was told, and I really enjoyed reading it.
Since I could not find any negative points about this story I have decided to give this book a rating of four out of four stars, because I think that the way Matthew Tysz has created a medieval style world that also has people with magical powers within it was very clever, and the dynamic that this brings to Voulhire makes for a compelling and fascinating storyline.
I think that this book would definitely appeal to Game Of Thrones fans, as I was reminded of this show whilst reading the first one or two chapters of the book, and I thought the story was almost like a Game Of Thrones meets Harry Potter type of story. I also think that this book would be perfect for people who are interested in fantasy style stories set in medieval times. It would also be a good read for fans of action books and thrillers, due to the numerous fight scenes within the book, and also for readers with an interest in sci-fi as well, because of the magical element to the story.
