Angler Island by Brad A. LaMar is an action-packed sci-fi mystery. Just the average family cruise trip to Bermuda, what could possibly go wrong? Evan, Zane, Nikole, and their family have a vacation on a cruise ship. Soon a storm blows over, but it is not an ordinary storm. A strange funnel emerges from the sky, and people on board the ship magically are healed by its powers. The funnel then has a green light burst out of it as the cruise ship is directed towards it by the command of the captain. On the other side, there is an island. As the cruise ship’s passengers emerge from the boat, they are greeted by a small military. The general then gives them the rundown of the island and tells them that no one can leave the island. The ship’s captain meets with the leader of the island who expresses that he already knows a lot about the captain. The children soon notice that something is off and uncover a murderous plot.

I really liked that the plot was imaginative and unique. I have never read a book like this one, so I enjoyed the fresh plot. I really liked the different perspectives throughout the book, they helped build a well-rounded image. I really liked how each character had his or her own distinct personality, and they were all different. Personally, my favorite character had to be the genetically enhanced monkey that one of the main characters befriended.

I disliked the number of characters. I kept getting some of the characters jumbled, especially those with similar names such as Morrison and Marsdale. On occasion, I could not help but feel like the adults were so open with everything. Everyone became best friends in the blink of an eye. Their lives were turned upside down, but everything seemed fine to them. The parents also did not realize their children were missing. It just seemed odd, and the reason that was given also seemed like it was a last-minute addition.

I rated this book 2 out of 4 stars because while the book was attention-holding and imaginative, there were a lot of errors throughout the book. The book had a great flow, but the constant errors took away from the consistency. The plot was unique, and all the twists kept me guessing. I was unable to give the other stars, due to the errors in the book and the other reasons mentioned earlier in the review.

I would recommend this book to anyone; I feel like someone that likes sci-fi books and mystery books would also enjoy this one. I specifically feel that young adults and teens would enjoy this book. It

I hope that I can get over the number of errors because regardless of the fact that I usually dislike works with many characters, I am drawn to this novel. I can’t wait to read it!

I would recommend this book even with a few errors since they didn't take away from the flow of the story. I hope you enjoy it!

I don't like books with too many characters. But I love reading Science fictions. I would read the book when it's properly edited. Thanks for your review.

I might be too old for this novel but it might be worth reading it if the author did more editing to fix the problems you pointed out. Thank you for your great review!
