We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a science fiction and fantasy novel. It centers on the life of Galen Bray, a refugee from the Lands of the Princes who was fortunate enough to have immigrated into Voulhire. Bray survived for over twenty years, living harshly in the Lands of the Princes until his great uncle, Galen Onita, sent for him. Unfortunately for Bray, his great uncle had passed away before his arrival. With only his great-uncle's forge to remember him by, Bray now has to adjust to his new life in an unfamiliar land.

To a foreign individual like Galen Bray, Voulhire would seem like paradise. However, rumors are going around that could destroy the nation if spread to the wrong crowd. King Wilhelm, king of Voulhire, has taken it upon himself to make sure these rumors stay rumors. Will he be able to hide Meldorath, a powerful mage feared by all? How will he cope with the meddling of the Mianoran council?

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in its series. As the first book in the series, the author did a good job of introducing us to the common scenery and terminologies that would continue to be used should we continue reading books in this series. The book opens with a detailed map of Voulhire. The book also contains a site for additional information regarding Voulhire. There is a glossary at the end of the book for easy reference of words that may seem strange to us.

One of the best parts of reading this book was its writing style. The book is written from an omniscient perspective. However, the writer switches to a first-person narrative style when discussing Galen Bray. The writing skill of the author came to light in his description of fights and activities in the book. Each line on each page leaves you wanting more. I also enjoyed reading about some characters, particularly the family of Lord Eldus. This book was professionally edited, as it was void of any errors.

The book ends with many unanswered questions, but I believe these questions will be addressed in subsequent books in the series. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There was nothing I disliked about the book.

I recommend this book to anyone above 18 who loves fantasy novels. I would not recommend this book to individuals younger than 18 because it contains profanity. There is no erotic scene in the book.

Coming from a shaky and tumultuous background, Galen Bray must have struggled a bit and this will definitely affect his perception of his newly found paradise. Your review sums up this beautiful story and I'd actually love to read. Nice!

I hope that Galen finds what he's looking for. I'm sure that things will be cleared up in subsequent books.
