Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen Bray narrowly escaped the Lands of Princes where war has been raging way before he was born. With the help of Rowan, the executor his uncle hired to find him, Galen was able to access a safe passage into the more advanced kingdom of Voulhire. Arriving at the town of Magnum Caelum, Galen immediately met his uncle's executor and they soon embarked on a journey through the southern part of Voulhire to find the materials for Galen to use as the town's new blacksmith. Meanwhile, Castle Hillport located at the southern town of Voulhire has been attacked by the town’s own chief magistrate, Dalehei Meldorath, upon the accusation that it's lord, Lord Orlin, was abusing children. Lord Orlin escaped but was killed by the town's mob upon the knowledge of his wrongdoings. Voulhire's beloved King Wilhelm Arcolo then declared Meldorath as new lord of Hillport. Three months later, Lord Meldorath was arrested by the order of the king himself upon accusations of immoral practices. It was said that Meldorath end his life from such embarrassment. The king then assigned Soulhire's Judge Eldus Alderman to become Hillport’s new lord. Now Lord Eldus Alderman, he traveled to Hillport together with his whole family with the hope of healing the town from the trauma caused by it’s previous rulers. But how true were these accusations thrown to the two previous lords? With new threats from Riva Rohavi, Voulhire's terrorizing rebels, will Hillport's new lord with his pure intentions finally cure the town of it’s wounds or will he also fall under it’s curse? And what awaits our young immigrant who is slowly falling in love with this new kingdom he now calls home?
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is his first entry in his fantasy series that will introduce you to a whole new and fascinating world of kingdoms, brotherhood, betrayals, politics, power, magic, and so much more. It may be a whole new world yet it revolves on matters that are significant in our own world with characters written with such depth it will leave you caring for their upcoming fate while figuring out their true intentions as the story unfolds. If Galen Bray fell in love with his new home, I fell in love with these new characters.
Despite having read the full disclosure, this first installment did left me hanging leaving me with mostly introductions into the life of every character in the story. I supposed that's where the succeeding books will revolve which I am now very excited to get my hands on.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is a very interesting read and a nice escape worthy of your time. It's easy to follow like watching a movie with just the right amount of creativity, humor, and action. Unlike most first books in fantasy series, it doesn't overwhelm the reader with too much profound details into creating its world upon the reader's mind. Matthew Tysz has a way with words and got an amazing insight of the world instantly evident on his personal notes that got me reading this book in the first place. He also provided a link to his website and a glossary of terms, concepts, and names for a more profound insight into the world of Voulhire.
I recommend this book to anyone whose interested on how the world and human mind works in a fascinating and engaging way. You don't have to be interested in politics to enjoy this book because the plot will keep your nose on the pages and you'll finish this introductory book in no time, definitely leaving you wanting for more.
