The story begins after an accident happened with his best friend. He was only supposed to appear at the address his best friend gave him, meet a professor and wait for the rest of the Village idiots to perform on Sunday. He did not consider he would face those near-death situations nor be a part of a prophecy. However, he made a promise and will do everything to keep it, even if he has to plot against the devil. His only solace was that he met a talented individual to share the eventful experience.

The author's writing style was lively. The illustrations were dynamic and clear. The tone was really exciting and engaging. The music theme was well chosen, and its combination with mythical beings was a great idea. The author's tone was also convincing. I almost believed in every information the author tossed my way. I was invested in the book. I have no comment about the relationship between the main characters. J. W. Zarek showed a spectacular story until the very end.

The revelations were numerous and all mind-blowing. I couldn't wrap my head over some of them, like how were they even possible? The bad person was so subtle in the book you will not believe it. The characters were promising, and the main character was someone reliable and responsible. I thought he would give up after the first revelation. Boone was a capable character. He deserved my respect for how he handled Baba Yaga and the other beings. Each encounter with these monstrous yet fascinating creatures was epic. I always wished for more scenes to appear.

I do evaluate The Devil Pulls the Strings with 4 out of 4 stars as I found everything to my liking in the storyline, the characters and the supernatural mysteries. Even the confusing parts could not deter my love for the book. There was a glossary at the end, and it dissipated some confusion, which was a considerate move on the author's part. Any inaccurate information was hard to see. Altogether, the story was brilliant.

This book is for anyone who looks for a great fantasy story involving music and a very capable but simple main character. You will never get bored. It also is for people that love Slavic folklore story modern version. I also recommend it to any music lovers who would like to try on reading mysteries surrounding Paganini's beautiful music.
