Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Judge Eldus Alderman was selected by Voulhire's king, King Wilhelm Arcolo, to be the Lord of Voulhire's southern town of Hillport after a tragic turn of events. He had a difficult task of restoring normalcy at Hillport, but every event that had occurred was still fresh in people's minds, and their rumors reverberated on Hillport's street.
Meanwhile, the Land of the Princes wasn't any better. There were constant civil wars that led to war-induced starvation, and people did whatever they could to get away from the Land of the Princes. Galen Bray seemed to have been among the lucky few. Rowan, an executioner, had been sent by Galen's mysterious uncle who wanted to hand over his forging estate to him (Galen) since he was not in good health and was probably dying. Galen thought it was a relief and was really happy to finally leave the Land of the Princes. Follow the story in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz.
I had already read some positive reviews about this series and gone over its synopsis, which immediately got me interested. The book sounded too good to be true, and it actually was! From the effortless well-knit narration to its wonderful and captivating twists, the book was a gem. Its character development was superb, and the author's originality and creativity are something I admired. It is already clear I will give the book a perfect score, but you'll agree after I explain why.
The book had many hidden surprises that swept me off my feet. It also had a rather hypnotizing fantasy-like feel to it. The scenes are drawn so well that I was virtually in Voulhire with the characters. I liked the characterization in the book — of course, as already said before. Galen was the most beloved to me; I enjoyed his naive, youthful, and quite admirable vigor. Wilhelm seemed too reserved and composed for my liking. It's not a surprise though — he was the king and that suit his character.
The book's medieval setting was another thing I enjoyed about it. It brought the same feeling I get when watching movies about Sparta, Ceasar, and the likes, which undoubtedly always enjoy. So it wasn't a surprise I enjoyed this book, too.
I don't think there are any negative comments to make about this book. Finding no reason to give a lower rating, I award it 4 out of 4 stars. The book was exceptionally edited and there were no errors. I recommend the book to readers who like fantasy books, especially those with medieval iron-age settings.
