Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Galen had not known peace in a long while. He had forgotten the time when all he had to worry about was what meal his mother would make for dinner. His period of peace and safety was cut short when one of the sons of the Emperor of Lullaby decided that it was wise to attempt to claim his brothers' lands. That son was, unfortunately, the king of Galen's hometown. From that day onward, blood spilled, and it seemed like it would continue to spill for a long time. Voulhire was Galen's only shot at a normal existence. He would rather die than miss out on the opportunity to go there. Unknown to Galen, the Voulhire he sought so desperately after was hounded by an evil that hid in the shadows.
Matthew Tysz is the king of weird and twisted fantasy fiction novels, and his books are unlike most in the same genre. A classic example is his fantasy horror series titled The Turn. Although the series this book belongs to is not a horror series, some of its realities are out of this world. The name of the series this book belongs to is We are Voulhire. The title of this novel is We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies.
I did not dislike anything about We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. While that is the case, you can never guess what I liked the most about it. There were a lot of grey areas in the novel. As the first book in the We are Voulhire series, it set the ball in motion for what was to come in Voulhire. It showed me a background of the kingdom and the fundamental ideals its people live by. However, it left a lot of questions in my mind unanswered.
Many of you may feel like this above-mentioned point is terrible, but I choose to look at it differently. These questions it raised came with the assurance of answers in the future. These questions made me more interested in not just this book but also the series. They are the fuel that feeds my burning desire for the story. One such question has to do with the character called Meldorath. I did not get him or understand his motive, but I am sure that answers will come in time. I liked these deep, unanswered questions the most in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was worth the time I spent reading it. Not only did I like everything in it, but I also noticed that Matthew Tysz edited it exceptionally. I will not subtract any star from this book's rating because there is no need to do that. That would be wrong. I, therefore, give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies a rating of four out of four stars.
I recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to readers that love twisted fantasy fiction novels. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the whole package that will appeal to that category of readers. There is magic, war, adventure, and death in the story. There is also love and humor, so the story is not entirely gloomy. I do not know if its sequels will have dragons like many fantasy adventure stories, but do not start this series with the expectations of seeing majestic dragons. You may be disappointed.
