We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the We Are Voulhire series. The book is an intriguing fantasy thriller novel. It takes place in Voulhire, a fictional kingdom where there is magic.

With war raging in the Lands of the Princes, Galen barely escapes with his life after receiving a document sent by his uncle from Voulhire, who was about to die and was looking for any remaining family member who would inherit his wealth and forge. When he gets to Voulhire, he is amazed by the riches, peace, and happiness the people in Voulhire are enjoying, as opposed to the raging war he was used to experiencing. However, he fails to notice that behind all the riches and peaceful state, there is evil, deceit, greed, and a vengeful bloodthirsty gang, who are seeking to start a war within Voulhire. Meanwhile, in other parts of Voulhire, other significant events were taking place. The King appointed Lord Eldus as the new ruler of the city of Hillport to help further the success of the fishing town of Hillport and quell the fear that the evil Lord Meldorath, the most powerful mage and the former lord of Hillport, was still alive. Is Lord Meldorath really dead? How much longer does Voulhire have before it gets plunged into a war? Will Galen get to enjoy this new life? These and many more mysteries are discovered in this intriguing book.

There are many things I like about this book. I like the new and different world the author invented in the book, with unique characteristics and rules. I also like the distinct uniqueness of the land of Voulhire. It is a mixture of modern and ancient times. The book takes place in an era where horses and swords are used. However, science is advanced that there are steam cars and showers with hot water. The narrative is from two perspectives: a first-person narrative from Galen and a third-person narrative for other characters in the book. I greatly appreciate the link the author provided that leads to a website that explains everything about Voulhire. There is also a map of Voulhire in the book and a well-detailed glossary at the end of the book that explains terms, titles, cities, and characters that were present in the book. This book is an introduction to the series, and many actions and mysteries are yet to be revealed. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of places, events, and people in the book. The author did a great job of describing them.

There is nothing I disliked about the book. It was well written and exceptionally well-edited, as I did not find any grammatical or typographical errors while reading the book. The author did wonderfully well with this book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I did not find any fault with it. I enjoyed reading this book, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy thrillers. Although there is no description of sexual scenes, there were instances of sexual innuendos or mentions of a sexual act. There are plenty of gory scenes, swearing, and profanities. Therefore, this book is best suited for people between the age of sixteen and above. Also, anyone uncomfortable with the slightest profanity, gory scenes, or mentions of sexual acts should steer clear of this book.

I like the creative writing of Mathew Tysz. I have read three books in this series, and I must commend his efforts. It's sad how Lord Eldus ended this book.
You are yet to be the best version of yourself. Keep refining.
