Matthew Greatworth is the only family Evangel has ever known. While she was an infant, Matthew found her on the scene of a tragic accident. Since that day, Matthew has been raising Evangel as his granddaughter. They spend most of their days and nights together, and their bond is stronger than ever. Evangel also has become the guardian of three wolfs, Whimper, Whisper, and Wheezer, who she cares for dearly. All in all, Evangel lives a peaceful life.

One day, while out gathering supplies, Evangel starts to get a bad feeling. Something isn't right back at home. But she thinks she might be overreacting and continues on her way to get the supplies. On her way back home, Evangel has this feeling again. But this time, she decides to trust her gut. Upon arriving home, Evangel takes notice of horrific doings to Matthew. What's happening to Matthew? And what will Evangel do about it?

The Penitent ‒ Part II by A. Keith Carreiro is a fantasy novel with adventure. Throughout the story, Evangel discovers herself while helping others in need.

I found this novel to be very intriguing. While reading, I was constantly wondering what would happen next. Each character felt realistic and had emotions that resembled those of real people. Because of this, I felt sad when they faced any wrongdoings. I connected with each character and sympathized with their discoveries. Because of my deep connection with the characters, my fondness for this novel grew.

I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy spiritual journeys and self-discovery. Evangel and many others discovered many things about themselves that were enthralling and inspirational.

One positive aspect of this novel for me was Evangel. Evangel was extremely sweet and kind but also determined. Whenever she was faced with a problem, no matter how dire, she always kept her head high and pushed on. I also liked how although she was sweet, she was also fierce. Whenever Evangel needed to step up on behalf of her people, she had no problem doing so. Another positive thing about this novel for me was the connection between Evangel and Matthew. Whenever Evangel was feeling troubled, Matthew knew without her saying a word. One negative thing for me was the excessive amount of information. At times there was too much unnecessary detail.

I give The Penitent ‒ Part II 3 out of 4 stars. I gave this rating because I loved the characters, but some chapters were tedious to read. I found five errors.

I am really glad that Matthew found it in his heart to help Evangel. Not many people do that. (I know this is fiction.) I’m also glad that they became so close that Evangel could tell when he was in trouble.

It seems like Part II adds a lot to the story started with Part I. Despite the great abundance of details, the story can be engaging but this is a very subjective point. Thank you for your great review!

I really enjoy books that give enough focus to characters, and Evangel looks like someone I would like to know more of.
Thank you for your review!
