Linking Information to Interstellar Travel - A Possibility

Post by DeepakMenon »

The theory of relativity rejects the idea of absolute time and space; in relativity there can be no universal truth about the spatial distance between events which occur at different times. Such as an event on Earth today and an event on Earth in 1865, and thus no objective truth about which point in space at one time is at the "same position" that the Earth was at another time. In the theory of special relativity, which deals with situations where gravity is negligible, the laws of physics work the same way in every inertial frame of reference and therefore no frame's perspective is physically better than any other frame's, and different frames disagree about whether two events at different times happened at the "same position" or "different positions". In the theory of general relativity, which incorporates the effects of gravity, all coordinate systems are on equal footing because of a feature known as "diffeomorphism invariance".
To add to the problem of interstellar travel are the constraints of the 'Speed of Light' viz Nothing can exceed the speed of light! So with the closest star system situated at a distance of about slightly more than a Parsec, to reach there within one's lifetime is an impossibility, or so it seems with the velocities achieved by spacecraft still having reached a maximum of a few miles a second against the speed of light which is approx 1,86,000 miles a second!
However there is some hope for mankind despite all these constraints, and this is even more significant because it seems clear that one day mankind will have to migrate to another solar system to save itself from extinction. Skymerge attempts to deal with this problem, albeit with a minimal plausibility, but not impossibility, and to my mind Interstellar travel is possible because the laws of physics indicate that quantum information relating to any particle is never ever lost. If there be a receiver for receiving a particle - by extrapolation a massive body like a human being or an object composed of trillions of particles - and if the transmitting machinery can convey the information relating to a body to the receiver through classical means -say laser beams or radio waves travelling at the speed of light - then to my mind the time taken to reach the closest star system in the visible spectrum (about 4.5 Light Years distance) will not be more than 5 years or so. A single electron has been transmitted 37 miles by Teleportation as reported by a NASA bulletin in Nov 2013 - following the no-cloning principle, the electron vanished at the transmitting point and reappeared simultaneously at the receiving point.
With the great advances in technology as well as astrophysics and astronomy and genetics, I have no doubt that if mankind survives this century, we will see teleportation becoming a way of life and the stars will not be too far for us to travel to.
Any Comments will be appreciated - there is never any constraint in tapping the sea of knowledge of august authors and writers
