Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the Voulhire series. This is an interesting fantasy novel filled with adventure and magic. The story starts in the Land of the Princes. Galen Bray, who is the main character of this novel, was born in the Land of Princes, which was ravaged by war and poverty. Galen Bray then decides to flee and start a new life in a magical land called Voulhire. The kingdom of Voulhire is beautiful, prosperous and full of promises. When Gary arrives in Voulhire, he finds out that he is the sole heir to his deceased uncle’s wealth.
However, the kingdom of Voulhire was not as peaceful and promising as Gary had imagined. Dark forces were lurking in the shadows, threatening the peace and tranquility of the citizens of Voulhire. There were rumors of the rise of an evil and powerful mage from the past called Lord Meldorath. The citizens of Voulhire are troubled and terrified. What would be the fate of Voulhire? Read We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz to find out.
I enjoyed reading this fantasy novel. The plot was intriguing and captivating. I love how the author paid great attention to developing the plot. I also admire how the author took the time to develop each character in the story. The introduction of a map at the beginning of the book also made it easy for me to comprehend the description of the kingdom of Voulhire. This would help anyone reading the book have a mental picture of the kingdom. I also appreciate the incorporation of a glossary at the end of the book for readers to refer to. It made reading fun. The author's storytelling ability is captivating. The plot, though complex, was easily understood by me because of the skillfulness and writing style of the author. Although the major theme of this book was magic, there were other themes featured in this book. They include politics, religion, philosophy and drama.
There are a few things I did not like about this book. One such example is the fact that the mode of communication and choice of words used by the characters seemed a bit off, especially when considering the era they were in. I noticed some of the characters used some words common in our present era as opposed to the medieval era. Another complaint I have about this book is that I noticed that it did not have a table of contents at the beginning of the book. This would have helped serve as a guide for anyone reading the book.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is because I enjoyed reading every page of this book. I also admire the author's writing style. I also found this book to be free of grammatical errors. Hence, it was professionally edited.
I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy novels. I noticed some sexual innuendos and narration of pedophiles in this book. Hence, I would recommend this book to adults who do not mind reading books with such themes.
