The Nightside series, by Simon R. Green.
This series follows John Taylor, a P.I. with a knack for finding things, if they want to be found...or not. His gift, or curse, lies within his head...his very own private eye which he can open, for a price.
The Nightside is the hidden part of London...the part where the sun nevershines, where it's always three a.m. and where anything can be bought, or sold, or rented if you're on a budget. Where gods go when the world doesn't believe in them anymore, and where the looking glass is looking back at you.
With The Harrowing (think black, soul sucking, fiends, with no faces), Lilith (Eve's evil, older, sister), and Walker (The Man-who'll stop at nothing to get his way), you're never at a loss for someone to despise.
It may even be the good guys once in a while.
The cast of characters is nearly neverending, which, to me at least, was a good thing.
Razor Eddie, Punk God of the Straight Razor.
Deadboy, held together with morticians putty, duct-tape, staples, and whatever else he can find.
Suzie Shooter, aka Shotgun Suzie, aka Oh God! It's her! Run!
And those are just the highlights. Ghosts, undead sorcerers, A.I., time travel, and sooo much more.
This series is a laugh out loud, cringe-worthy, unconventional, thrill ride. With a writing style that is both humorous, and very descriptive, but in the best way possible.
These are all relatively short books, quick to read, and every one left me waiting for the next.
With an edge of utter strangeness, and the perfect mix of sci-fi and fantasy, this is one series I'm sad to have seen end.
So, if you want to see where the real boogie man lives, or know the secrets that will steal your soul, look no further...The Nightside is just what you've been waiting for, it's been waiting for you as well.
