We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. This book tells us a story about a boy called Gallen, who is basically poor and from a war-torn place called Prince Island. The book starts off with Gallen on a boat traveling to a country called Voulhire to receive an inheritance from his uncle. Like in any country, there are many cities inside. To name a few, Voulhire has its capitol city of Soulhire, the remaining which are Virko, Yamon Soul, and Magnum cealum, the tiny town that Gallen is traveling to.

The kingdom of Voulhire is well known for its wealth and culture. The people of Voulhire struggle to be known for one of these features: faith, magic, or science. Gallen, who was opportune to live a new life in this country of fortune, has decided to repay the opportunity he has gotten. This story also focuses on a character named Meldorath, who is a suspicious character. He is one character that is feared in the book. He was arrested for experimenting with bio-magic, a dangerous crime that made the people afraid. The king, Wilhelm Arcolo, pacifies the people with the news that Mage Meldorath is dead. But the question that keeps everyone in suspense is. Is he really dead? This story has so many plots.

The detailed description of the building structures, attire, and scenic sites was appealing to me. It demonstrated the author's visual storytelling ability. The language used was engaging. I liked how realistic the main character was. The author was really able to depict the whole picture of what each scene looked like in the reader's head. I love stories that really throw one's imagination into overdrive, and this is one book that does.

One of my pet peeves about the science fiction and fantasy genres is the strange naming style that makes it difficult to remember the characters. There are times in this novel where I felt like things should have been expanded on more or maybe not even included. The beginning of this book wasn't really captivating enough to allow the reader to want to continue. However , if a reader is patient enough, he/she will begin to enjoy the book in the later chapters.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I really don't like sci-fi and fantasy stories, but this book was a good read and was really intriguing and captivating. This book was professionally edited. I found no errors in this book. Although I found some profanities, which were not much of a hindrance to one's reading. I recommend this book to an older audience (over the age of 17), and not a younger audience.
