Galen, a resident from the Lands of the Princes, has known war his whole life. It was no surprise that when the opportunity presented itself, he would board a ship and set sail to a new land with much more promise, Voulhire. While Galen begins his new life as a blacksmith, a battle of rumors and deception is unfolding across the grand nation, and more specifically, in the sad city of Hillport. This city has been plagued with past lords who never cared for the citizens and did nothing but hurt them, but this time the King of Voulhire has a Lord fit for the job, Eldus.

Follow along in this tale of mystery, lies, and magic as we witness great events spread throughout this fantastical land. Every scene and line of dialogue is so perfectly crafted and woven together that the story is difficult to pull away from. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz serves as an introductory book to his great fantasy series. The author’s ability to connect multiple characters into one grand story while maintaining the attention of the reader is a great skill few can compare to.

One positive thing about this book is the amount of detail that the author gives. He breathes life into the characters and the scenes in such a way that my imagination was encompassed, and I lived alongside the people of Voulhire. The unique storyline that is presented in this book is just as captivating as the interaction between each lifelike character and the beautifully described scenery they are in.

A negative aspect of this book is the way the author includes so much detail in a short amount of time for various subjects, such as Voulhire lore or descriptions of locations. While these details are great and paint the picture clearly, it can be easy to get lost in the words. With that being said, this book definitely isn’t a light read.

We are Voulhire: A NewArrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz has been one of the greatest books I have had the pleasure of reading in a long time, and I would recommend it to anyone who is an avid fan of dark fantasy, adult fantasy, and magically themed worlds. Based on these reasons presented and the superb editing, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
