The book, We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, is a science fiction novel filled with mystery, magic, and murder. In the first chapter, the reader is introduced to the Kingdom of Voulhire and the people living there. To most people, the kingdom is filled with prosperity, happiness, and magic. However, Voulhire has its dark secrets and haunted past. Secrets that King Wilhelm and Lord Eldus are determined to keep from surfacing. The main character, Galen Bray, begins to experience the wonders of Voulhire when he arrives in one of Voulhire's cities. Galen left his life on a war-torn island to take over his great uncle’s business in Voulhire. While he expects to live his new life as an ordinary blacksmith in a small city, something happens that changes his role forever. What lies ahead for Galen and the people of Voulhire? Will the danger that the kingdom seeks to keep hidden resurface? Who will protect the prosperous Kingdom of Voulhire? These questions can only be answered by author Matthew Tysz in his book We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies.

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the complexity of the plot. I also applaud the author’s patience while developing the storyline. The story begins with an action scene but then calms down for a while. Normally, when a book goes on for a long time without action it can get boring. However, Tysz does an unbelievable job of keeping the reader engaged the entire time. The build-up to the climax was slow but very effective. I even appreciate it more now that I know what ends up happening. I also love how the author switches between different characters’ points of view throughout the story. This helped me gain insight into different people’s lives and their inner thoughts, which I enjoyed. The author’s advanced writing style and vivid descriptions helped me paint accurate pictures of the scenes as well. I found this to be another really fun aspect of the book.

As I stated earlier, the book did include many characters’ points of view. I found myself getting a little confused between the characters at times. I think Tysz could have used fewer characters and still got his overall message across. However, I appreciated the author’s ability to transition so smoothly between different characters. This small issue did not take away from my overall opinion of the book at all.

Overall, this was a great book. The author's clear writing style made it a very easy book to follow. Tysz’s plot was also incredible. He did a great job developing his characters and building up to the excitement in the story. I applaud Tysz’s ability to create a made-up world and make it seem so realistic. I also found no grammatical errors, which makes me believe that this book was professionally edited. Because of the reasons stated, I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.

If you are someone who enjoys science fiction novels filled with mystery and magic, then I would highly recommend reading this book. This book does contain some graphic scenes. Please make sure you are okay with violence before reading this!
