Lord Meldorath, a biomage, is the new administrator of Hillport, a quiet fishing town of Voulhire. The residents are grateful to him for ridding them of the sadistic paedophile Lord Orlin. But why does a celebrated general want to be an administrator in a backwater town? What is his connection to Caromentis, the magic realm? What are the night terrors the children supposedly molested by Lord Orlin referring to. Have the people of Hillport let the fox into the chicken coop? Meanwhile Galen Bray, a refugee from the Lands of the Princes, is fortunate enough to get away with his life and escape to Voulhire where his deceased uncle intended him to take over his blacksmith business. Galen is happy to follow the instructions of his uncle's executor, Rowan, on how best to learn how to be a successful blacksmith. What are Rowan's real intentions when he convinces Galen to procure an unknown mineral? Dark clouds are hovering over Voulhire and a new age is about to be born.

Entrancing is the first word that comes to mind in describing We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies. This is the first instalment in the series and it does not disappoint. The build up of the plot is excellently choreographed helping the reader to segue into the world of Voulhire. The characters are so well developed that the reader finds themselves immersed in their feuds, hopes and desires. The descriptive prowess of Matthew Tysz is something to behold. One can easily imagine themselves in Hillport trying to escape the Riva Rohavi soldiers along with the townsfolk. The chapters are also uniquely titled giving the reader a precise picture of what to expect and which character the chapter is devoted to. The use of first person narration in the chapters dedicated to Galen Bray put the reader right in the story. It feels like one is really running from assassins in the Lands of the Princes, finding out the color of their hair for the first time and roaming the Voulhirian countryside searching for lactis steel. It almost gives the reader a pause from all the goings-on. I really liked that.

The flow of the plot is also to be commended. The timeline is well laid out and the reader can follow what is happening and when even when the scenes switch. The book is also professionally edited and I found only one typo. This added to the enjoyment of the book and really helps the reader to follow the plot. The glossary at the end of the book is also an excellent touch. It comes in handy in helping the reader understand the whole premise of the book. The only thing that I found irksome about the book was the ending which seems not to be quite conclusive. Though the saga of Voulhire continues, I feel the ending could have been wrapped up better.

I give We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz a rating of 4 out of 4. This is because of the obviously excellent editing and the fact that the book is highly enjoyable.

I would recommend the book to lovers of fantasy books. If one is into action and suspense they would not be disappointed either. I would not recommend the book to any sensitive readers as the book does contain some pretty descriptive violent scenes and some very saucy language.
