Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an epic fantasy book unveiling the world of magic. It is the first book in the We are Voulhire series, telling a remarkable story of an empire, the world of magic, betrayal, trust, and courage. Through the eyes of different characters, this remarkable story is told. Being the first installment of its series, it begins with the introduction of readers to Voulhire, its kingdom, kings, and people.
In the reign of King Wilhelm Arcolo, a humble king devoted to the throne, Lord Orlin ruled over Hillport, a town in Voulhire. Lord Orlin, unknowingly to his people, took pleasure in toying with the children of the town. This was done through hosting parties and inviting kids. At the time, Meldorath Dalehei, a former general and mage of the Voulhirian army, left his position to settle in Hillport. Meldorath was the friend of King Wilhelm Arcolo and Lord Orlin. Along the line, Meldorath discovered the atrocities of Lord Orlin. He attacked Hillport castle, the home of Lord Orlin, and overthrew him. He was executed and Meldorath became the new Lord. Being driven by power, and caught experimenting on the people of Hillport, he was sent by King Wilhelm to be executed. Now a new Lord, Lord Eldus has been installed. But the fear of Meldorath still lingers on. Some say he's dead, while others believe he's alive and planning his revenge.
Before reading this book, I'd always been fascinated by books centered on the world of magic. This book not only satisfied my curiosity, but also gave me more insight, and took me on a wonderful adventure filled with magic. What I greatly liked about this book is the wonderful storyline and the writer's style. Unlike other books having chapters or a proper introduction, this book is filled with an air of mystery. It started with a prologue and then, straight to the story. The no indication of chapters knocked me off at first. But as I continue reading, it became enjoyable. As readers will never know what to expect while reading. This book is presented from a third-person point of view. Whereby different characters are introduced, with a heading and a few pages dedicated to them. This made me able to connect with these characters and know their story.
Although there were so many things new to me, and so many questions to be asked, I couldn't bring myself to hate or dislike anything about this book. I saw it as a way of learning and discovering so many things. And knowing this book is the first in its series, I believe I'll be given a clearer view in the next series. One other thing to love is the adventure that goes along with this book. Galen Bray's journey and settlement in Voulhire are filled with adventure. There are so many thrilling aspects of this book, and the only way to find out is to dive in. And trust me, you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to read the other series too.
In conclusion, I rate this book a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. I highly believe it is well deserved for my rating. It is exceptionally well edited with no typos. It is an epic and thrilling book, and I recommend it to lovers of fantasy books, those fascinated by magic, and lovers of adventure books.
