We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skie skillfully written by Matthew Tysz, is the first book in this series based on the Voulhire Kingdom. This book investigates leadership, nepotism, migration, and covert conspiracies. We see the events in the book unfold through the eyes of Galen, the book's naive man who is required to relocate to the Kingdom of Voulhire to take over his uncle's business and thrive. He has no idea how this action will affect everything.

Though set in a science fiction setting, the tale of the inhabitants of this country is strikingly reminiscent of the difficulties we face today. There is a prevalent perception that moving to a first-world or more developed nation will enhance one's situation. People are seen leaving their place and migrating to chase the dream of a greener pasture. The realities of possessing such a dream are highlighted in this book. You can see that such a voyage is not without hardship or cost. In the end, you can even find yourself in a situation where you're an outcast and life doesn't live up to your expectations. The Kingdom of Voulhire emphasizes suffering, giving up one's comfort, and how the desire for a better life may alter everything—perhaps not permanently for the better.

Politics was another way that the events in this novel mirrored current events. Using Lord Meldorath's persona, a ruthless and deceitful leader is exposed. We see how extreme family rivalries may become for personal gain through the Emperor's sons. In this book, the author addresses an apparent struggle between good and evil while leaving some open-ended questions for the reader to make their interpretations.

I appreciated how they presented this universe. The character development was also exquisite. The author's skill at incorporating subtly political commentary into the novel's main plot also astounded me.

My favorite aspect of this book was how realistic and authentic it was. The pictures in this book were yet another appealing feature and my favorite. Readers can visualize the layout of Voulhire because of the abundance of maps and instructions throughout the book. As a result, I could comprehend Tysz's environment in great detail. Additionally, the author made sure that in the reference section at the end of the book, complicated terms and occurrences were clarified. As a first-time reader of this series, I found this quite helpful.

I can't wait to read the remainder of this series after this beautiful read! There's nothing to dislike in it. Nothing.

Due to these factors, I cannot give this book anything less than a four out of four stars rating because nothing in this book bothered me. I saw no errors, and the editing was expertly done. I recommend this book to lovers of sci-fi stories and anyone looking for a fictional, story-driven criticism of the present political climate.
