One of the synonymous things associated with the Second World War was the mass movement of civilians and military alike trying to escape the advancing armies of both the Axis and Allied powers. A person never necessarily moves away from home unless they have to search for greener pastures. However, when there is an enemy army at your doorstep threatening to annihilate you, your family and friends, you take the fastest route out.

The Land of the Princes has been dogged by war since the Princes’ father divided up his lands among them. With war comes suffering, and those suffering are the civilians at grassroots levels. They have no food, no peace and some even have no lives. An unlikely stroke of luck finds Galen Bray in this war torn country, and he gains passage to Voulhire. He goes on to inherit his uncle’s wealth and trade in a foreign country; completely grateful for the new lease on life. Meanwhile, the situation among the Kingdom’s elite is untenable, as the king is embroiled in the business of securing his nation from the savage Riva. He also has to save his citizens from their own evil leaders who drive their subjects to misery.

Matthew Tysz seems to be a lover of chaos and order as through his book, We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, he delivers his muse in the physical but fictional land of Voulhire while exploring the magical world of Caromentis. He tells a couple of stories simultaneously; expanding the horizons of the story and giving the reader more information about Voulhire. The majority of the book has been written in the third person point of view, except when the main character of the story is mentioned. Galen gets the privilege of telling his own story as he sees it and lives it. This technique eliminates all biases with regard to emotions and beliefs. Each mentioned character gets an opportunity to give their view.

There is no negative aspect in the book at all. The book is highly readable, as each change in event or point of view or character is clearly heralded by a title. This makes the book more intriguing, as the reader cannot wait to discover which character they are reading about. The book appears to be exceptionally well-edited, as I came across no errors. However, the book contains mild sexual content and some profane words, which may not be appropriate for some readers. There are also mentions of child abuse that are absolutely frowned upon today. This does not deter me from happily awarding this book four out of four stars.

This book is suitable for a mature audience of teenagers, adults, adventure fans and thriller fans. The book is highly enjoyable and is part of an ongoing series. I encourage readers to go on and read the consequent novels.
