Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first edition to the Voulhire series. This fantasy novel has the potential to grip the reader and transport them to the world of Voulhire from the very beginning. The author introduces the protagonist, Galen Bray, as a poverty-struck young man in search for a fresh start and fresh hope. He was born in the Land Of The Princes where each day was nerve-racking, constantly fretting about what drama was unfolding that particular day. Upon discovering the Kingdom Of Voulhire, which was rumoured to be full of promises and delight, he considers leaving his hometown to make his way to Voulhire, hoping for a more relaxed, enjoyable life.
Galen Bray arrived in Vouhire full of hopes and dreams that his life as he knew it was about to change, and he could live in peace and dignity without any worry. However, when he arrived there, he was shocked to discover that he was the sole heir to his uncle's wealth. Further shock was in store for him when he learned that life in Voulhire was far from promises, lavish regions and delight, it was more like a war zone. The kingdom appeared to be under threat by mysterious dark forces lurking beneath the shadows. Lord Meldorth was part of the dark forces and threatened the many lives of Voulhire citizens. Lord Meldorth was rumoured to exploit the Kingdom of Voulhire and endanger life, causing chaos across Voulhire.
I admire this plot. It was clear that the author had spent quite some time developing the plot and the theme in general, which was magic. The book was very captivating and intrigued me quite a lot throughout.I appreciate how the writer has formed each character, showing their initial development throughout the book. Moreover, the map at the beginning of the book caught my attention as it made me feel at ease when reading this book, as I found myself understanding the kingdom a little better and this enabled me to paint a much more realistic picture of the plot.
I found nothing I disliked. However, as a recommendation, I would like to suggest the writer includes a table of contents which may encourage readers to follow the book with more ease and less confusion. I cannot comment on the grammar, as the book appeared to be well edited and error-free.
Matthew Tysz is an author I adore. I find his work exquisite and this book is a fine example of this. The writer pays attention to his intended audience and writes in a language they understand. I believe the book's format is also fluent. The rating I believe the book deserves is 4 out of 4 stars. I could not deduct any stars from the final rating because I found the book to be professionally edited, hence no grammatical errors were found. The writing style chosen by the writer is evidently fluent, and I admire this. Those who enjoy the fantasy genre are the most appropriate audience for this book.
