Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a sci-fi/fantasy book that talks about the story of a great kingdom called Voulhire.
The story began with a bloody scene that took place in Hillport, one town in Voulhire. Meldorath accused Lord Orlin of being a pedophile in the town. At first, people in the town didn't believe this until clear evidence of Lord Orlin's act was shown to them. Although the great king of Voulhire, King Wilhelm, never trusted Meldorath, he was appreciated for catching Lord Orlin and was made the next Lord of Hillport according to the people's wish. Three months later, Meldorath was also caught by the agent sent by the king to monitor his activities. Meldorath was caught conducting a vile experiment on the people of Hillport. Meanwhile, Lord Meldorath was a former mage who was highly skilled in using magic. With this great sin in Lord Meldorath's hand, will he surrender and admit his mistakes or use his power against his country and become a great villain?
This book was the first of its series, and I will say the author did a great job of writing this book. Matthew's writing style was conversational. The way he blended characters was impressive, and the theme of the book was charming. This book was filled with great suspense, and the ending hooked me with the desire to read the next series. Matthew narrated the story with first and third-person points of view without confusion.
I love how this book contains a map at the beginning of the book. This will help the readers to draw connections between every activity that involves traveling from one town to the others in this book. This will also make the readers know how far the towns described in this book were from each other. I also love how this book contains a glossary of names and terms at the end of the book. This will help the readers to understand and remember unique words used to explain the kingdom of Voulhire. This book was well organized and prevents the reader from getting bored.
There were a lot of characters in this book, but the one I found interesting was Galen. The way he was open to learning from others was impressive, especially from his uncle's executor, Rowan. The way the author provided links to the continuation of this book series and his other work was amazing. This will help the readers interested in reading more of the author's works or love to continue the other series of this book as soon as they finish reading it.
I did not find any negative things about this book. I only find a few errors in this book, which means it's professionally edited. Therefore, I would rate this book four out of four stars. It contains elements a sci-fi book must contain. I would recommend this book to lovers of sci-fi/fantasy stories, as they will find this book interesting.
