Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is the fifth book in the We are Voulhire series. The author, Matthew Tysz, has done a commendable job. He resourcefully explained the scenarios with well-developed characters. I have not read his previous works yet, but I did not find any difficulty understanding the characters or plot. This book, however, intrigued me enough to take up its prior releases.
The book is a page-turner with a perfect blend of adventure, action, mystery, and magic. Maintaining suspense until the appropriate moment is one challenging task for the author, as is making sure that each character is conceivable for readers amidst multiple characters' inclusion. The author pulled both these things off accurately and seemingly effortlessly.
The author employed both first-person and third-person narratives in his writing. The first-person narrative is from a young man, Gelen. He belonged to the Land of Princes, where surviving each day meant choosing between starvation and death. Therefore, he fled to the little city of Magnum Caleum to claim the inheritance from his uncle. The story becomes interesting when the life of Gelen intersects with the other characters. At first, I felt as if I was reading tethered pieces, but after only a few pages, I could effortlessly assemble those pieces into a puzzle that gets resolved towards the end. Every character has a unique narrative to share. I found Meldorath's part fascinating because it kept me bewildered about his personality, whether he was a villain or a hero. He was responsible for most of the pitiless massacre, but at the same time, he earned my respect as he freed the castle from Orlin's dark truth.
Since I didn't find any error while reading, I can deduce that the book is exceptionally well edited. I am awarding it 4 out of 4 stars because of the story and the author's execution of it with the required conviction. I recommend this fictional piece to anyone who loves imagination and reading about mysterious, enchanted worlds. A map in the initial pages makes it possible to understand a textual description of other lands.
I would not recommend this book to a teen audience because it refers to child abuse and uses profane language in a few places. However, it did not incorporate religious barriers or sexual connotations. It may irritate readers when a scene abruptly concludes. I found an abrupt shift in the narrative that affected my flow while reading. Nevertheless, taking everything into account, the book is a great read.
