Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an interesting fantasy book and the first book in the “We are Voulhire” series which consists of nine books. In the story, Galen Bray escapes from civil war in the Land of Princes and flees from his home. His journey leads him to Voulhire, the prosperous kingdom where he hopes to begin a new life. Now he is learning about his great uncle’s craft. He is also getting to know the mysterious nation he is living in. But not everything here is as beautiful as it seems. From the first person perspective, the story shifts to the third person perspective. Readers can witness the events in other parts of Voulhire and also recognize more characters from the book. These characters include Lord Eldus, King Wilhelm, Chancellor Maido of Mianora, mage Meldorath, and more. Each character has a different motive and purpose in the story. Now there is a big question, can King Wilhelm trust the Miamora? What are the intentions of mage Meldorath?
I feel every character in this book is thoughtfully placed in the plot. Due to the fact that this is just the first book in a series, I feel that these characters could not develop their true character and intentions. At the beginning, I found the story of the book a bit confusing. There are many points of view, and some don't seem to be following the story. However, as I dug deeper into the book and kept reading, pieces of the story started to come together and I began to understand how everything fits together.
One wonderful thing I must highlight is the Voulhire reference guide at the end of the book. This world is beautifully and thoughtfully arranged, and I am filled with many positive emotions. I like that there is this guide explaining every key term for Voulhire. In addition, you will be able to understand the key points discussed. Eventually, after a rocky start, I began to enjoy the book. I was captivated by the mystery, unknown events, places, and numerous others, which made me want to continue reading this book and the entire series, "We are Voilhire".
When it comes to editing I come across only a few minor mistakes. From my point of view, I feel this book is well-edited and I give it 4 stars out of 4. In the end, I like the book and its mystery trope. So I think this book deserves a full rating.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy mystery and fantasy books. There will be many things readers can be amazed by just from the start of the book. Since the beginning of the book is a bit confusing, I recommend readers start with the reference guide provided by the author. Then it will be easier for you to follow the story plot and you will understand more of the words and terms used.
